Before the advent of social media, never in my wildest imagination that I will see random people clash with local celebs because they disagree on the hottest issue of the day.
Fast forward in the age of social media, it’s a common occurence to see ordinary netizens call out any celebrities if one disagrees with his or her politics.
This is exactly what Facebook netizen Willy Ramasola did to actress Agot Isidro on social media for her malicious Independence Day greeting on Twitter.
Check out Agot Isidro’s tweet below and tell us if the actress deserves the spanking from Ramasola.
Happy Independence Day, Philippines!!! 🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭
Philippines pa naman tayo, di ba?
Just checking 😉— Agot Isidro (@agot_isidro) June 12, 2019
In the Facebook post, Ramasola replied to Isidro’s tweet, told her with an emphatic yes, the Philippines is a sovereign country ruled by a democratically-elected government.
Ramasola went on to lecture Isidro that in today’s world the concept of “independence” has evolved.
“Independence” said Ramasola is no longer about independence from foreign occupation.
In today’s world, the emphasis is “interdependence” especially when talking about international trade and even about global security.
In other words, countries depend on each other for the products and services that one country has competitive advantage over the other countries.
Ramasola lectured Isidro that the greatest freedom Filipinos need now is freedom from ignorance.
Ramasola explained that because of lack of education, many people are fooled to invest in scams, vote for politicians for the price of P200 and follow religious cults.
To do this, the government need to invest in educating the people or improving the quality of our education. If we have done this, all other freedoms are easy to achieve.
On Twitter, netizens also slammed Isidro for the sarcastic tweet.

Yes, Agot. We are still the Philippines: a sovereign country ruled by a democratically-elected government.
However, in this modern world, real freedom is not really about independence from Spain, or the US, or Japan or China.
Especially when talking about international trade and even about global security, there is now a tighter interdependence between nations. We need each other for the products and services that one country has competitive advantage over the other countries and so now there is no such thing anymore as total independence.
And so as we celebrate our country’s 121st independence day, we get to listen to grandstanding government officials pushing for freedom from poverty. We hear the opposition politicians talk about freedom from injustice. And so forth.
But personally the greatest freedom that most Filipinos need now is freedom from ignorance. Because of the lack of education, many are fooled to invest in scams. Many follow religious cults. Many were made to believe it is ok to vote for a candidate in exchange for Php200. And many think it is okay to use drugs and do all sorts of crimes.
If only we can address this problem of ignorance by educating the people, or improving the quality of our education, then all the other freedoms would be easier to achieve.
Educate the people about investing and they wont be gullible to fall for these scams. Teach them the truth about God and they wont believe in this cult leader who even claims to own this world. Inculcate good values in people and develop their wisdom so they wont elect corrupt candidates. Hone their skills so they can find better paying jobs or build their own businesses.
That is the real freedom that we should wish for and promote for all Filipinos: the freedom from ignorance.
Happy independence day.
God bless the Philippines.
