Anakbayan Cebu deleted its post denouncing “campus militarization” because a “soldier” dropped by an ATM inside UP Cebu campus?

Back in the days, people hold student activists in high regard for speaking up against social injustice in the country.

But in the age of social media, student activism is no longer popular in the public’s eyes.

People nowadays are well-informed, thanks to Google and Facebook.

And with that, people’s perception towards cause-oriented groups and student activists have changed.

In short, people don’t trust them anymore as the “”people’s champion” fighting against social injustice.

Rather, they are perceived as the urban front of the communist movement, seeking to overthrow a democratically-elected government, no more no less.

Well, that’s the harsh realization learned today by the cause-oriented group Anakbayan when it denounced campus militarization when a soldier was spotted withdrawing money from an ATM located inside UP Cebu campus.

BREAKING: Military elements were spotted in UP Cebu this afternoon. In the guise of withdrawing money from the ATM inside the campus, these AFP personnel are shamelessly attempting to conduct a lowkey surveillance on UP students. According to witnesses, they withdrew only a hundred pesos and left after riding a police patrol car.

Resist crackdown!
No to campus militarization and surveillance!
Activists are not terrorists!

Are the people buying Anakbayan’s Facebook post accusing campus militarization just because a “soldier” decided to withdraw money from an ATM located inside UP Cebu campus?

No, if judging by the netizens reaction watching Anakbayan’s post.

Out of 2,700 plus people reacting to Anakbayan’s post, 1,800 people hit the “haha” emoticon and that says a lot.

Embarrassed by the public’s reaction, Anakbayan decided to delete the photo when the post has gone viral, a few hours since posting.

But thanks to “Showbiz Government”, who took a screenshot of Anakbayan’s deleted post and re-posted it on their Facebook page.

To Anakbayan’s horror, the reaction on social media has been harsh and embarrassing on their part.
