Apayao villager shared life under the shadow of the NPAs, life after NPAs were evicted from hometown

A native of Luna, Apayao has taken to Facebook to share his personal experience to NPA cadres in particular and to the public in general how it was like living in an NPA infested town where the infamous NPA’s 1st Battalion once held camp.

The Apayao native said that his father almost became an NPA if not for his elder sister who stopped his father by not letting him go when the NPAs was about to take him.

The Apayao native also recalled the frequent evacuations of his family during the period when the NPA lorded over their village.

The Apayao native said the NPA have done nothing for his hometown but brought violence. In addition, they hindered development, peddled lies, sowed fear, cultivated hatred and propagated violence on a daily basis. In other words, the NPAs have brought so much pain and trauma to the townspeople.

But thanks to the village elders and political leaders who mustered the courage to cooperate with the government forces and the NPAs were driven out of Luna, Apayao and no longer welcome until now.

The author said the people quickly began to reshape and re-establish their lives as soon as the NPAs were evicted. Almost all the kids, including the author made education their priority, which the NPA didn’t want when they were there. No one is pinning the blame on the government or anyone for their fate.

The once no man’s land has morphed into a place of peace-loving Lunanians.

The author asked whether the NPAs have experienced this? He answered “NEVER” because they lived in the cities. Living in a make-believe world shaped by a godless ideology. (The author must be referring to student activist turned NPAs.)

Then they go to the countryside dazzled by power and motivated by money. They enjoy peddling lies founded on the imperfections of our society and the government, employs fear as a tool to feel authority over the common people.

The author wished the absolute destruction of the NPAs soon just like what happened to them in his hometown where they are forever defeated. Many kids in the countryside will then realize their dreams, live a happy and contented life like him.

The author happily shared the news that during the founding anniversary of Apayao, their leaders never fails to recognize the sacrifices of their elders, political leaders and the government forces in order to get where they are now – living in peace and progress.

By the way, the author is none other than Gladiuz Cariaga Calilan, a full-fledged Colonel of the Philippine Army who was apparently forced to respond to the propaganda of the NPA calling him Duterte’s executioner and an expert liar.
