The Ateneo School of Government just released its 7K drug-related deaths via Inquirer and radio host and blogger Carlo de Leon wasted no time in attacking it as downright ‘dubious.’
De Leon said even the US State Department who have more resources at their disposal did not agree when Leni Robredo reported the same figure in the video message to the UN from the time Duterte took his oath in July 2016 to September 2018 and doubted if it changes its stand now.
De Leon found the statement of Ateneo School Government’s in justifying their figures, “compiled and validated through news reports” dubious because the news media reports that Ateneo based its figures were unverified reports since news reports can be faked, modified and distorted.
De Leon also lambasted Ateneo School Government calling it “egotistical and conceited” for having the gall to say they are the sole institution that made an effort to record and document all extrajudicial killings.

Here we go again. Where in the hell did the Ateneo School of Government get the figure of more than 7,000 deaths?
“Compiled and validated through news reports, the archive is arguably the sole independent effort to record and document all extrajudicial killings in the drug war outside of the Philippine National Police’s own tally.”
In short, it’s a compilation of unverified media reports. We all know news reports can be faked, modified, and distorted. If the source of the data is from the archive of media, then the figures are unverified reports or fake news.
Not even the US State Department (with more resources) agrees with the bloated number of drug-related deaths. They reported a much lower number of 4,941 deaths from July 2016 (start of the Duterte admin) to September 2018, a year after Leni reported more than 7,000 people were killed in summary executions in a video message delivered in the UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs annual meeting in March 2017.
And finally, the audacity of the Ateneo School of Government to claim they are the sole institution that made an effort to record and document all extrajudicial killings is so conceited and egotistical.
A typical yellow entitled belief: they are the only ones who know what to do and how to do things.
