“There is a lot a lawyer can do that he can get away with. However, when a lawyer calls an incumbent President a sex maniac, then that is a basis for disciplinary action, if not disbarment,” lamented Atty. Rivera.
Atty. Bruce Rivera is referring to the Facebook post of Atty. Jesus Falcis, whom he believed has gone beyond the acceptable, even to a liberal like him.
In the post, Rivera also chastised Atty. Falcis for using the wrong terminologies.
“Nymphomaniac refers to a woman while satyriasis is the term for the male.”
Let me direct your attention to the screenshot of the controversial Facebook post of Atty. Falcis for your reference.
Rivera argued that criticizing the President or any public officials in relation to his actions public office is one thing, but to insinuate a sexual disorder is altogether a different matter.
“We can criticize any public officials, as I do with VP Leni. And calling them names in relation to actions in public office is allowed as a criticism. But to insinuate a sexual disorder clearly outside the ambit of public office and insinuating sexual intercourse as a way to shame individuals is way below the belt.”
Rivera rested his case by urging the IBP to take note of Atty. Falcis action.
“I demand for the IBP to take note of this action because even for a liberal and open-minded lawyer like myself, this is too much.”
As of this writing, Atty. Rivera’s post has gathered 230 shares, 2,171 reactions and 334 comments on Facebook.
Byron Cristobal shared the sentiment of Atty. Rivera and wrote: “Someone should really write to IBP. Masayado nang mababa yan. Eh kung sabihin kaya ni mocha na si Leni sex addict? Siguradong isang katututak na reklamo aabutin niya dahil sa code of ethics. Dba ang Lawyers meron din Code of Ethics?”
Christine Odang lamented the abuse of freedom of speech. “Pinakakalat nya sa publiko ang isang malisyosong salita pra bastusin ang pangulo at si Mocha. Sobra na talaga sa freedom of speech yan kasi nkakabastos na ng tao lalo na pangulo ng bansa.”
Nikki Andaya couldn’t help but ask if Falcis is indeed a lawyer. “Lawyer ba talaga to o isa sa bobong nakalusot lang at.nagbayad. Insinuating that these people are hacing sexual relations is punishable by law di ba? Di ako lawyer pero alam ko mali ang ginawa ng talangka na to.”
Amadito Morante commented: “Atty. Bruce this is what we called ‘Slandering and Sexism’ criminal offence in UK! This Falcis guy went below the belt. I hope this matter should not be taken lightly, dapat ang taong katulad niya a.”
