Cainta Mayor gives side of LGU re viral post of daughter of gov’t nurse who died of covid complications?

Did you read the FB post of the daughter of the nurse who alleged Mom received her hazard pay only after she succumbed to covid-19 complications?

The heart-wrenching FB post of Joie Cruz struck a lot of sympathetic and angry nerves of netizens, helping the FB post to go viral quickly and subsequently, got the attention of mainstream media like Rappler.

Well, if you read the latest FB post of the Mayor of Cainta, this is not entirely true.

In a Facebook post, Cainta Mayor Johnielle Keith Pasion Nieto thought it would be just right to hear out the facts.

Mayor Nieto belied the claims of Joie Cruz, daughter of the deceased nurse, point by point.

1. Mayor Nieto said the hazard pay was P300/day not 150 as claimed in the viral FB post. 2. Her mother’s request for a swab test was not denied. In fact, the screenshot of the convo between the deceased and the LGU showed the deceased changed her mind and canceled scheduled swab test because according to her, she was starting to feel fine. 3. Her mother was not assigned at the covid ward by the Hospital director and did not handle covid patients because of history of ailments. 4. The Cainta LGU gave P50,000 assistance to the family and personally talked to the author of the article. 5. Mayor Nieto even posted the screenshots of the convo of the mayor’s staff with the author of the article as proof he was not making things up.

Mayor Nieto said it was regrettable that it happened to her Mom but he said it was unfair to paint a picture of a government numb or oblivious to the plight of her Mom and the sufferings of the surviving family members.

And lastly, Mayor Nieto humbly admitted he was preoccupied in taking care of his constituents, in providing their needs in the time of the pandemic because that’s his job as the Mayor while putting the people in government, and that includes him, in the second priority list.

Mayor Nieto ended the post saying he is not complaining because he chose this and likewise his fellow government servants, who worked even on holidays just to serve his constituents. Mayor Nieto remarked you never heard him whine because he knew it comes with the territory. If he knows he can no longer do his job, he said he will leave quietly.

BTW, according to the FB post of radio host Mark Lopez, the Cainta Municipal Hospital where the victim worked is under the jurisdiction of the LGU.

You may read the original FB post now.

‘Naglabas ng article ang anak ng namatay na nurse sa Cainta expressing her sentiments on the way government has treated her mother. Dahil nurse siya sa Cainta Cainta Municipal Hospital, i thought it would be just proper to hear out the facts.’

1. 150 a day ang hazard pay sabi sa article.

So 300 a day or 18,000 per employee ang kabuuan ang binigay natin.

7. Kung hindi naging sapat ang pagtugon ng ospital o ng aking opisina sa mga pangyayari, i would extend my apologies. But i will not just let this pass at tatahimik kahit na alam ko kung ano ang totoong nangyari.

At pag alam
