DOTr gets flak despite doing super fast job in re-opening Ormoc airport in 24 hours after 6.5 quake shut it down

In the wake of the Leyte quake, the Ormoc airport was shut down due to damaged portion of the runway, rendering it unsafe for landing.

On Friday, the DOTr announced on its Facebook page that the Ormoc airport is open on July 8, which is today after the DOTr via CAAP (Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines) “was able to COMPLETE thorough inspection of Ormoc Airport including its runway and passenger terminal building. The painting of displaced threshold markings to warn aircrafts of the damaged portions of the runway was also COMPLETED.”

While the DOTr has been receiving a pat on the back on social media for the super fast action, some netizens decided to rain on the parade by commenting negative remarks, earning the ire of social media.

Brian Renz Estrada wrote: “I’m not satisfied with this achievement na ba ito?

The DOTr quickly replied to Estrada’s comment to enlighten him about the purpose of the announcement, which is to inform Ormoc residents and the tourist planning to visit Ormoc that the airport is open for business.

Kate Hattori also chided doter while accusing them of playing traditional politics. Lakas maka trapo!”

Department of Transportation – DOTr Philippines [Admin 03] responded to commenter: “Sir, importanteng malaman ng mga taga Ormoc, maging ng mga taong pumapasok at lumalabas doon, na operational na ang airport.

The negative remarks from the two critics did not make a lot of Duterte supporters happy and descended on them like angry bees, hitting them from every angle.

Meanwhile, netizens give kudos to doter for the quick action.

Kharen Semacon Geraldo wrote: “Good Job Sir,the taxes of the Filipino people are now working!kita mo nga naman.at least sabihin natin maliit man yan para sa iba pero buhay ng mas nakararami ang nakataya.

Anna Marie Escolano Hara commented: “Great job DOTr! People of the Philippines and tourists appreciate your prompt response!”
