As reported on Rappler, Mayor Rodrigo Duterte is hinting a possible change of heart because of the tremendous pressure the good Mayor has been feeling lately even from ordinary people asking him to run for President.
In the event Mayor Duterte decides to run for President, I would like to see him pick Senator Bongbong Marcos as his running mate. Though rumor has it, Cayetano is his VP of choice. But I believed the Duterte-Marcos tandem is the team to beat in 2016. Let me tell you why.
A Duterte-BBM tandem will solidify the Visayas and Mindanao votes.
Mayor Rodrigo Duterte is the favorite son of Mindanao so it is a given that majority of Mindanaons will go for Duterte come election day. And this was confirmed during the survey released recently by one of the two popular survey firms in the country. In 2013, Mindanao has 11.9 million registered voters. In addition, Duterte will also corner a good percentage of the estimated 2.5 million or more Cebu votes because he traces his roots in Cebu. Not only that, Duterte has also roots in Maasin, Southern Leyte. Meanwhile Bongbong Marcos is the sentimental choice of the Waray and the Leytenos. Besides, you cannot discount the Marcos loyalists in other parts of the Visayas as well. In 2010, Eastern Visayas comprises of 2.431 million registered voters.
A Duterte-BBM tandem will solidify the Ilocano votes.
The Ilocandia is not known as the Solid North for nothing. Bongbong is the favorite son of Ilocos not only for sentimental reasons, but because of his solid performance in bringing progress to Ilocos Norte. The vaunted Solid North has reportedly 5 million votes.
Duterte-BBM is popular among the OFWS.
Duterte and Marcos are the darling of the OFW’s. There are an estimated 10 million OFW’s spread all around the globe excluding their families back home. These two personalities in my opinion have the most numbers of Facebook groups between them with several chapters created by supporters based locally or overseas. The tandem is also the constant target of black propaganda obviously to undermine their candidacies.
Bongbong Marcos is a proven leader and problem solver.
Davao City’s success is credited to the leadership of the good Mayor! He has transformed Davao City as a premiere city in Mindanao. In a survey conducted by a Numbeo.com, Davao City came out in fourth place as the fourth safest city in the world. Meanwhile, Bongbong is a good compliment to Duterte because of his youthful vigor in pursuing innovative solutions to the problems of the country. The best evidence of that was how he managed to solve the electricity problem of Ilocos Norte by building the Banguid Wind Mills. Check the video below.
Bongbong Marcos is a strong advocate of Federalism just like Duterte.
Mayor Duterte is pushing for the shift to Federalism and he has been vocal about this in his TV interviews. Meanwhile, Bongbong Marcos is a believer in Federalism too. As early as 2010, the latter has been saying in his past interview that he supports it.
Mayor Duterte and Bongbong Marcos are unifying leaders.
Mayor Rodrigo Duterte kept telling reporters during interviews that he embraces all groups of people: Muslim separatist, Reds, rightists and other factions because he believes that the key to peace is talking to these people instead of going to war. Meanwhile. Marcos has always been a believer in initiating dialogues with the rebels and foreign countries. In fact, the good Senator recently called the attention of the President to start backdoor talks with China.
Either way, Duterte-BBM or BBM-Duterte is a tandem to beat in 2016. Nothing is certain yet until the day of the filing of candidacy.
