Based on the Rappler report, the soldier was on board a motorcycle with an unidentified barangay official on the day of the kidnapping when armed rebels blocked their path. The barangay official was released on the same day.

The rebel Commander identified as ‘Commander Joker’claimed the release of the kidnapped soldier was based on “humanitarian grounds in accordance with the Comprehensive Agreement on Respect to International Humanitarian Laws.”

Meanwhile, the spokesman of the 4th Infantry Division Captain Joe Patrick Martinez, said Bingil suffered from “anxiety and anguish,” and physical and mental fatigue at the hands of his captors.

Corporal Bingil was immediately brought to Camp Evangelista Station Hospital in Cagayan de Oro City for his recovery.

According to Brigadier General Paul Atal, acting commander of the 4th Infantry Division, the Bingil incident was a case of kidnapping; a crime punishable by law.

However, the General was thankful for the gesture of the rebels for returning the soldier full of hope that the rebels are projecting a renewed faith in peace, and aspiring to resume the peace talks with the government through the NDF.

Corporal Bingil was met with the welcoming arms of his wife, Jenny and two kids. The wife, Jenny was quoted as saying, “I’m happy we will be a family as we welcome the new year.”
