Ex-DLSU prof rejects calls for mass testing from Hontiveros, Kapamilya stars, cites Malaysian argument why mass testing not for PH

The know-it-all critics of the Duterte administration think that mass testing is the solution to the country’s SARS-CoV2 problem.

You know them. Senators Risa Hontiveros and KiKo Pangilinan are leading the charge in calling for mass testing.

As expected, the Kapamilya artists and their supporters are following their lead.

The Duterte government has already responded to this thru Malacanang Spokesman Harry Roque and that the position of the government is targeted mass testing. I will not elaborate on this because Sec. Roque has already defined it over and over again on national TV.

As predicted, the Opposition and their supporters insisted their definition of mass testing should prevail.

Well, if you asks ex-DLSU professor Van Ybiernas, the Opposition’s version of mass testing is wrong.

Ybiernas did not explicitly say it but he just praised Malaysia’s argument on mass testing.

Ybiernas believed that mass testing, like the Malaysian government, will give the people a false sense of security.

Ybiernas said the fear of Malaysians has basis. He shared his observation of the experience of South Korea which conducted an extensive mass testing. He noted Sokors are using mask in public but they tend to forget social distancing.

In other words, the SoKors are falling into complacency after knowing they have less cases of covid after mass testing was conducted. People started going to the malls and public places. The feared second wave occured. Fortunately, South Korean have better infrastructures (technology and physical infrastructure-wiseso they were able to control the second wave from going out of hand.

This is the not the case in Southeast Asia including the Philippines. If mass testing is carried out and Southeast Asians know that the covid infection rate in the region is low, they will start going out of their houses and troop to the shopping malls.

This is what the Malaysian government fears the most – people will stop being afraid and starts going out after knowing they have low cases of covid. And then boom, the virus will spread fast and they cannot contain it.

Ybiernas said this is what the anti-government fails to comprehend. They think life will go back to normal which he said will not happen unless the vaccine vs the virus is discovered.
