Mayor Rodrigo Duterte bags the endorsement of the women’s group Gabriela Party-list on Sunday, 28th of February and spoke favorably of the former.
Gabriela Party-list Rep. Luz Ilagan said criticisms of Duterte’s philandering ways was mainly attributed by media hype.
Womanizing, kissing: most of that is media hype. .. Even if he says that I am a womanizer, may mga girlfriend, remember that the mayor is already separated. His marriage has been annulled.
“Controversies will naturally arise against Duterte as he vies for the country’s highest electoral post. But the public, she said, should also focus on Duterte’s achievements and abilities,” Ilagan further added.
To quote Ilagan from the article posted at ABS-CBN’s website and reads, “I personally even say that look beyond the words, look beyond the actions. Focus on what he has done, what he can do, what he is still doing that will benefit our people.”
It can be recalled that GABRIELA once lambasted Mayor Duterte for his womanizing ways and released a strongly worded statement in airing their disapproval of Duterte and said:
Womanizing and treating women as objects are an affront to women and it should not be flaunted. These reek of machismo, reinforces the society’s low regard of women and consequently increases women’s vulnerability to violence and abuse.
But Gabriela Party-list Rep. Luz Ilagan explained that their criticisms against Duterte were “principled criticisms” and that is water under the bridge now as the latter already acknowledged this.
Interestingly, Mayor Duterte and GABRIELA attended the forum of the Women for Action on Sunday.
The article posted in ABS-CBN said that the women’s groups in the gathering shared with Duterte the issues they find relevant, including peace, good governance and equal employment opportunities.
Perhaps, having the avenue to communicate did the trick as Duterte also promised to study the divorce bill that they are pushing, Rep. Ilagan told Bonna Pamplona of ABS-CBN News. You may watch the video here.
