GEM-VER o GEM-VIR? Confused radio host wants explanation why media outlets spelled the name of controversial PH fishing vessel differently!

A confused radio personality Mark Lopez has taken to Facebook seeking clarification why why media outlets spelled the name of controversial PH fishing vessel differently!

Lopez posted the photo collages of the fishing vessel involved in the Recto Bank accident that appeared in news reports of GMA News, Rappler and in the FB post of DA Secretary Manny Pinol.

GMA News referred the fishing vessel as F/B GEM-VIR while DA Secretary Manny Pinol and Rappler (according to its caption) referred it as F/B GEM VER.

In the first photo collage (shown below), Lopez noted the striking difference of the boat that supposedly sunk and re-floated in the Recto Bank. And, Lopez also noted the difference in spelling of the name of fishing vessel.

The second photo collage below shows the GMA News article mentioned the fishing vessel twice and spelled it F/B GEM-VIR 1. DA Secretary Manny Pinol referred the fishing vessel as F/B GEM-VER 1. Rappler on hand became more confusing. Rappler’s photo shows the name of the fishing vessel was F/B GEM-VIR while captioned it F/B GEM-VER.

Perhaps exasperated with the confusing spelling of the controversial fishing vessel, Mark Lopez asked Felix Dela Torre owned two boats? Or the spelling was merely changed?

Lopez wondered if Gem VIR was changed to Gem VER, why is it that the photo of the old boat kept popping up?

Lopez’s follow-up question further complicates the issue. Lopez asked why GMA News used F/B GEM-VIR 1 in its news article to refer the fishing vessel since its very basic to commit such mistake since their field reporters were in the site double check it.

Lopez concluded his FB by demanding an explanation.

GEM-VER o GEM-VIR?

Sir Ed Alunan,

May napansin lang ako.

Ewan ko kung trivial o insignificant.

Ano ba talaga pangalan nung fishing vessel, F/B Gem-VER 1 ba o F/B Gem VIR 1?

Bakit magkaiba? (1st photo collage)

Tapos, check nyo itong 2nd photo collage.

May explanation ba dito?

Netizen Eddie Sarabosing says there are actually boats. GEM-VIR was smaller than GEM-VER.

Dalawang banka yon.

Netizen To Bi echoed Eddie Sarabosing’s theory.

Dalawang bangka kase gamit nila. Dba???

Netizen Jerome Bringas also concurred with the two-boat theory.

Okay wow!

While netizen Ace Oraiz also expressed doubts on the news media narrative.
