DENR Secretary Lopez on Facebook announced the successful arrests of a businessman for environmental sabotage in Palawan.
According to Sec. Gina Lopez, the DENR team accompanied by the NBI and AFP Western Command under Lt. Gen. Raul del Rosario.
A certain Usec Art has arrested Rafael Cervantes and his men for killing mangroves in an attempt to build a subdivision.
“Our team has removed installed fences and other structures found within the perimeter including at least 100 houses,” Sec. Lopez said.
Lopez called out PNP provincial director Ruben Sarmiento for resisting our operations and coddling Cervantes and his group!
“Super mega thanks to PH Marines 1st Lt. Edgar Ardamoy and 1st Lt. Jef Tiburcio,” Lopez made special mention of two gentlemen from the Marines.
Lopez remarked that what her DENR team discovered is unacceptable.
“We found corpses of mangroves and corals piled up as a foundation for the subdivision they were building!”
If found guilty, Cervantes will be meted with life imprisonment for robbing the government and the environment billions in pesos!
In September 2016, CENRO started the inventory of the mangrove trees in Sitio Barimbing, Barangay San Manuel where Cervantes build his subdivision after residents and the barangay officials reported it to CENRO.
