An irate US-based blogger Edwin Jamora called Ibon Foundation Executive Director Sonny Africa “dishonest” in retaliation after the latter called the Duterte admin “dishonest” about the country’s economic gains.
Jamora, a Duterte supporter on social media, went on to check the same data that Africa reviewed and to his consternation, someone was lying.
Jamora said the economic growth under the Duterte admin is around 6.4% compared with President Aquino’s 5.7%!!!
Jamora exclaimed, “You don’t need an MBA degree to figure this out!”
He said he just fired up the average formula in excel and voila, Africa’s dishonesty was all there to see!
Jamora, apparently exasperated with Africa’s twisted reasoning could only asked: “Baliktad na ba bilangan ngayon because Africa is reading that 5.7% is higher than 6.4%?!”
Jamora asked in jest what school Africa enrolled so that he can avoid it.
In case you missed it, Ibon Foundation Executive Director Sonny African called the PRRD admin “dishonest” about the PH economic gains on its website article dated July 4, 2019.
Africa was reacting to the pre-SONA forum of the Department of Finance wherein the (DOF) hailed the Duterte administration for its achievements during its first three years in terms of “rapid economic expansion”, “the lowest [unemployment] in 40 years”, “alleviating poverty”, and Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion (TRAIN) law “benefiting 99 percent of taxpayers”.
Africa said the growth the DOF has been bragging is actually a lie.
Africa declared that the economic growth has been slowing since the start of the Duterte administration. From 7.1% in the third quarter of 2016 to 5.6% in the first quarter of 2019. A momentary increase to 7.2% in the third quarter of 2017 was noted but growth fell rapidly after this.
IBON also pointed out that the growth was slowing even before the budget impasse and election ban on infrastructure spending. If you wish to read the full article, you may visit the link here Ibon Foundation.

SO, SINO NGAYON ANG DISHONEST MR. SONNY AFRICA?!
So kahapon, my good friend Benjie Daisy Contreras asked me to look into the statement of IBON Executive Director Sonny Africa kung totoo ang sinasabi nya! I promised him na tatapusin ko muna mga school assignments ko and I’ll dive into it.
Eto na yon.
Sabi nang IBON executive director Sonny Africa, growth has actually been slowing since the start of the Duterte administration. Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) data show that gross domestic product (GDP) growth has been slowing in the 11 quarters since the start of the Duterte administration from 7.1% in the third quarter of 2016 to 5.6% in the first quarter of 2019. There was a momentary increase to 7.2% in the third quarter of 2017 but growth fell rapidly after this.
I checked the same data that Sonny Africa reviewed! Under President Duterte, the average GDP growth for the last 11 quarters eh 6.4% compared with President Aquino’s 5.7%!!! You don’t need an MBA degree to figure this out! Banatan mo lang nang @average formula on Excel!
Now, notice that under Duterte, tadtad sya nang 6% GDP growth! Tingnan nyo ang growth under Aquino. 3%?!
Not only that, under Duterte, we have a stable economy. Did you notice that from the quarterly growth? Eh yong ki Aquino? Akala mo parating epileptic attack ang economy naten eh!
Baliktad na ba bilangan ngayon because Africa is reading that 5.7% is higher than 6.4%?! Anong school ba sya galing para maiwasan kong mag-aral dun?!
