A furious OFW lashed at singer Gary Granada on Facebook after he was quoted by ABS-CBN News that he’s ok Filipinos wanting to migrate because they are unhappy with the outcome of the just concluded election and the Duterte administration.
But that’s not the part the Pinay OFW found infuriating! It’s when Granada said migrating means you will meet OFWs there, where the Dutertards are aplenty.
The ‘Dutertard’ comment of the singer-composer Gary Granada’s has elicited angry reactions on social media, particularly from Oman-based Filipina doctor Rolaiza Mimi Singayao who wrote an open letter addressed to the singer expressing her great disappointment.
Singayao who admitted she used to be a fan of Granada because of his music about OFWs and their lives, could help but vent her frustrations at Granada’s 180-degree reversal from being pro-OFW to becoming an anti-OFW.
In frustration, Singayao could only wonder what happened to the old Granada that used to fight for the welfare of the OFW through his music and voice.
Singayao felt sad that the OFWs are now just letters and notes to Granada.
Singayao asked Granada if his Migrante and Gabriella friends have done something substantial contribution in protecting the OFWs? If the mentioned NGOs have been a consistent and strong protectors of the OFWs.
But lately, the OFWs are now mere “Dutertards” to Granada, the subject of his sarcastic social media posts, the OFWs who will cross paths with those who will migrate because they are unhappy with the outcome of the last election.
Singayao remarked that Duterte, the President who cares for the welfare of the OFW, who would fought hard or even die in the negotiation table just to make the OFWs safe and sound in the countries that harbors them.
Singayao asked Granada if he has ever exerted an effort to get to know them and understand? Rather, Granada have been mocking the OFWs.
Singayao argued that “Dutertards” are empowered, assertive and make noise when necessary. In other words, “Dutertards” are informed and willing to engage not as scholar but as a human being. Being a Filipino.
Singayao this is what PRRD told them, that OFWs aren’t slaves and won’t allow to be treated as such.
Singayao remarked that this powerful words from PRRD are their weapons, the very words that makes them feel very free.
Singayao ended the long rant telling Granada to continue mocking the OFWs and in retaliation, they will ignore his music, laugh at him and worse, sp!t on his face.
Dati.
Informed at nakikibahagi kami. Hindi bilang nga iskolar kundi bilang tao. Bilang Pilipino.
