Is Kabataan Partylist threatened with Matteo Guidicelli’s joining the Army? PMA alumnus says so in viral FB post! Read why!

Actor Matteo Guidicelli’s has been very vocal on social media calling on Filipino youths to be proud of who they are, to look at the flag and say, “I’m Pinoy” and be proud to be Filipino.

Another meme wherein 2nd. Lt. Matteo Guidicelli suggested that serving the military is the best way to serve the country and that explains why he joined the Army reservist.

Propaganda wise, Guidicelli ‘s vocal support of the AFP in general and the Army in particular has been giving the leftist groups some sleepless nights because he is the perfect antidote to the unabated leftist mass recruitment of the Filipino youths to their ranks in colleges and universities.

In fact, the Kabataan Partylist countered via an open letter that the best way to instill nationalism and patriotism is by joining the broad masses in their ranks as they mobilize against all forms of attacks to their democratic rights and livelihood.”

The open letter ended by challenging actor Matteo and his showbiz colleagues to use their platform, to call on the people to unite with the basic masses, the marginalized & oppressed, and the militant youth of whom have long been mobilizing to uphold the democratic rights of the people and the role of collective action in genuine nation building.

In other words, the cause-oriented groups wants Matteo to promote their leftist cause and abandon glamorizing the Army because it certainly makes them less popular to the youths and recruiting new members is more impossible than before Matteo entered the Army as a reservist.

PMA Alumnus Andre Calabes on Saturday has taken to Facebook to put the Kabataan Partylist’s challenge to the actor and 2nd Lt. Matteo Guidicelli in proper perspective that ordinary Filipinos, especially the Filipino youths can easily understand.

In the Facebook, post Calabes praised Guidicelli saying the actor could be one of the best things that happened to the Army in terms of improving image.

Cabales credited Matteo Guidicelli for the sudden surge of people’s interest about the Army. For example, the Army’s social media accounts has been flooded with messages asking if they can also join the reserves, what is a Scout Ranger and the most important, how they can help.

Calabes said Matteo Guidicelli is far from perfect as a person. Perhaps, Matteo can learn some more of the sensitivities of people in terms of recognizing their expression of patriotism, Calabes suggested.

Calabes reckoned that Matteo is not a threat to this country, as all that he represents right now, while imperfect, is directed towards a better Philippines.

Calabes remarked that if more people will ask themselves how can they help this country move forward, then Matteo would have done justice to the organization that he now represents.

Calabes reiterated that the threat to this country is not a celebrity who joins the Army Reserve force.

LONG READ: The threat of a Matteo Guidicelli

Here’s the story: A celebrity volunteers to join the Army Reserves. He goes around using his popularity to support the Army and the Government. He asks to go on training with the Scout Rangers. He was allowed to join the 30-day Orientation Course with PMA Cadets. Gains more admiration and then vow to continue supporting the Army. He posts one image telling people to stop talking “smack” and instead unite for the country… He is attacked.

There is no denying that Matteo Guidicelli could be one of the best things that happened to the Army in terms of improving image. Suddenly there is someone who commits to represent the Philippine Army using his huge following, especially to the youth. People who wouldn’t normally want to know more of the Army suddenly messages our social media accounts asking if they can also join the reserves, what is a Scout Ranger and the most important, how they can help. In Social Media, photos of him in training were the most engaged and his #TusokUloChallenge brought a new meaning to an activity that all of us hated when we were in training. By all means, he was successful at raising a level of awareness of the military organization to the Filipino people.

Now, who is threatened by this?

The biggest draw of Matteo Guidicelli are the young people who idolize him. The same group are the target of recruitment by “supposed youth groups’ that has openly criticized everything that the Army represents. In a statement of Kabataan Partylist dated July 13, “We stand that the best way to instill nationalism and patriotism is still by joining the broad masses in their ranks as they mobilize against all forms of attacks to their democratic rights and livelihood.” The statement ended with saying that “we further challenge Guidicelli and other personalities in the industry and beyond to use their platform, to call on the people to unite with the basic masses, the marginalized & oppressed, and the militant youth of whom have long been mobilizing to uphold the democratic rights of the people and the role of collective action in genuine nation building” (full statement: https://www.facebook.com/kabataan/posts/10161921911570557). From my point of view, it is this group that is most threatened. Matteo can very much convince the young people to heed his invitation to help the country instead of joining rallies left and right.

Amidst all this, we learn of the plight of one mother, Rellisa Lucena, who is looking for her 17-year-old daughter who ran away on the prodding of Anakbayan FEU Morayta. Note that Anakbayan is affiliated with Kabataan Partylist. We also hear about Christine Banugan who exposes the truth on the murderous exploitation of the CPP NPA NDF to her tribal community in Mindanao including the brutal murder of her father by the NPA. All these things are ignored by Kabataan Partylist but instead issue a statement on Matteo Guidicelli.

Matteo Guidicelli is by no means a perfect person. Perhaps he should learn some more of the sensitivities of people in terms of recognizing their expression of patriotism. But he is not a threat to this country, as all that he represents right now, while imperfect, is directed towards a better Philippines. If more people will ask themselves how can they help this country move forward, then he would have done justice to the organization that he now represents. The threat to this country is not a celebrity who joins the Army Reserve force. The threat to this country are those that steal their children from their parents on the auspices of “serving the people” where they end up in rallies and eventually as NPAs (sometimes DEAD NPAs). The threat to this country are those that put malice on a call for unity and patriotism. The threat to this country are those that chose a life to fight this government.

So, who is threatened with Matteo Guidicelli?
