Yesterday, April 23, 2018, Arab News published an article reporting the arrest of two Filipinos for allegedly convincing housemaids to run away from their employers’ homes.
The arrest could have come at a better time when relations between Kuwait and the Philippines are strained after the Duterte government banned the deployment of Filipino workers in response to reports of abuses committed against Filipina household maids.
According to Arab News, the arrest of the Filipinos came after “Kuwait summoned the Philippines ambassador over comments he made that were reported in local press about the embassy’s effort to rescue domestic workers who are abused by their employers. Ambassador Renato Villa was quoted as saying his embassy moves in to help the abused if Kuwaiti authorities fail to respond within 24 hours.” [Link here]
Now, who was the local press who made the dumb decision to broadcast a sensitive video that put our country in a diplomatic bind with Kuwait?
Well, the video below gives the public the clue who was the culprit.
Two days before the arrest of the two Filipinos by Kuwaiti authorities, retired TV and radio broadcaster Jay Sonza already had a premonition, if you will, that this will happen via a Facebook post.
Sonza also identified who’s to blame in case Kuwaiti authorities start rounding up the people who take part in the rescue of Filipina household workers.
Check out Sonza’s Facebook post below.
Netizens echoed Sonza’s sentiment and they have been very vocal about their anger towards GMA-7 and the people behind Saksi for practicing irresponsible journalism via the comment section of the thread.
Melchor Vergara writes: “GMA News should be held responsible for sabotaging a discreet and confidential operation to rescue our OFWs”
Yves Archer remarks: “Dapat mga ganyang bagay hindi inilalabas ng medya..may restriction sana.cover lang ng cover hindi alam.saan hahantong.ang ibinabalita..either sabotage to destroy the PRRD Adm.in the expense of the.OFW..walang kaluluwa ting ibang media!”
Bucci Lopez says: “Iresponsableng pagbabalita.
Update: The video clip of the rescue of the abused Filipina house helper was allegedly uploaded originally by RJ Nieto aka Thinking Pinoy on his Facebook page.
