In line with their #BabaeAko campaign, Duterte’s critics blasted the President for the kiss, calling it as “power tripping” and “debasing to women”.
Senator Risa Hontiveros accused Duterte of acting like a feudal king who thinks that his position gives him the entitlement to get what he pleases.
“It was a despicable display of sexism and grave abuse of authority. President Duterte acted like a feudal king who thinks that being the President is an entitlement to do anything that he pleases.”
However, Trixie Cruz-Angeles, a lady lawyer and a known Duterte supporter sees it differently.
Rather than debasing women, Angeles said the kiss may have an empowering effect to the Pinay OFW.
Angeles lamented that while Duterte’s critics make it appear Mrs. Bea Kim is the victim, the Pinay OFW kissed by Duterte, they are also giving the impression she’s a liar.
Angeles remarked the critics insist on making the woman the victim because it goes well with their political narratives and agenda.

Hindi pa rin humupa yung sa halik. Ngayon naman, di raw bale na nag consent si Ms.Kim. Hindi daw dapat nag ask at all si Pangulo. Worse, its about power daw. Di daw sila patas. Kaya if he asks, then walang choice si Ate kundi um-oo.
Naiintindihan ko. Oo nga may power play dito. Oo di sila pantay. Pero naman mga ‘teh, are you saying na long after the incident she is still compelled to kiss him?
She could take your line now. She could say NOW na hindi na nya nararamdaman yung power, now na malayo na sa insidente, now na walang pressure, pwede nyang sabihin, “Oo! napilitan lang ako! He’s the President. How can I say no?” Pwede na nya kayong sandalan bilang mga kakampi nya.
Instead she says, “Wala yon. Nagpapakilig lang kami ng audience.”
O, baka naman i-argue nyo pa na dahil presidente si Duterte, hanggang ngayon dama pa rin yung power politics at takot pa rin si Ms Kim. Er… are you saying she is lying? Ginawa nyo na ngang biktima, inakusahan nyo pang sinungaling.
Di ko tuloy alam kung ano pakay ninyo? You want to glorify disempowerment? To say that she is a victim when she herself refuses to fit into the victim role? In fact tinatanggihan ni Ms. Kim na biktima sya. Ang sinasabi nya, co-conspirator pa sya. Na magkasundo sila ni Pangulo na gawin ito because she was pandering to the audience.
Gusto ninyo gawing victim yung hindi victim. dahil meron kayong agenda. Pero hindi ninyo iniisip na this woman is actually empowering herself by saying, she did this. She did this deliberately. That as a woman she wanted this and saw nothing wrong with it. That it was her choice too and that by making it her choice, she will not be victimized by any power politics. Babae sya. And she has power too.
