Wow! Mar Roxas must be losing sleep after reading the headlines of the major daily newspapers, “Liberal party members of the Mindanao block are abandoning ship to join the Duterte bandwagon.”
Very recently, LP party members from Mindanao have decided to switch allegiance to a leader who is chasing history to become the first President from Mindanao in 2016.
In a report filed by Frinston Lim of Philippine Daily Inquirer, it was revealed that former Mayor Rey Uy, LP chair of Tagum City announced recently he is supporting the candidacy of a fellow Mindanaoan in the person of Mayor Rodrigo Duterte.
The former Mayor of Tagum who is seeking the mayoralty position of Tagum likened the local politics to ‘chopsuey’ a Chinese inspired dish popular in Filipino palates because politicians from different party affiliations will support only one candidate and that is Rodrigo Duterte for the Presidency.
In a country notorious for having violent elections wherein political adversaries would kill one another for a coveted position, rival politicians in Tagum City have expressed their support for Duterte in 2016.
Meanwhile, the incumbent governor of Davao del Norte, Governor Rodolfo del Rosario also expressed support for the candidacy of Mayor Duterte. To think that his son who is seeking the gubernatorial position in his stead is a personal friend of Mar Roxas, the incumbent governor did not have any second thoughts to express his support for Mayor Rodrigo Duterte.
Worse, an influential politician recognized as one of the kingmakers in Mindanao in the person of former Davao del Norte Representative Antonio Floirendo Jr. unabashedly expressed support for Duterte.
Likewise, last-termer Davao del Norte Second District Representative Anton Lagdameo promised to deliver the votes to Duterte in the 2016 Presidential derby.
Peter Laviña, Duterte’s spokesperson, boldly predicts that 80 percent of Mindanao politicians will throw their weight behind their own and come together to propel Mayor Duterte to Malacanang.
