Reiterating his earlier pronouncement, Mayor Rodrigo Duterte vows peace in the Philippines in 3-6 months. That is, if he wins the 2016 Presidential election.
Speaking to reporters covering the release of NPA abductee Cpl. Adriano Bingil on New year’s Eve, Duterte vows to build peace among different rebel groups and Muslims separatist within 3-6 months into his term as President and quote:
You cannot promote peace in this country by remaining divisive in your dimensions about the struggles of life. As I’ve told you before, it is an ideology and we have to respect what they believe in. It has resulted in a civil war, which is really what’s happening now. The only way really to talk, is to talk about peace – nothing else. You know, if the culture of anger and hatred prevails, how can we build a nation? Because peace must be inclusive and it must involve everybody. Whoever sits as President, if you will not fix those who is fighting against the government, then peace will remain elusive.
