Netizen blames Cynthia Villar as price of rice grain drops to as low as P7/kilo, says he understands now why the senator sponsored bill in senate

When the price of rice (local and imported) skyrocketed a year ago or so, it created long queues in many cities in the PH, forcing the government to find a stop-gap solution and prevent a potential flash point that could lead to mass unrest.

Voila! The economic managers of President Duterte said rice tarrification was the answer to our rice problem.

Senator Cynthia Villar agreed and she endorsed the rice tarrification bill in the senate floor.

On February 14, 2019, President Duterte signed the rice tarrification bill aka Republic Act No 11203 into a law or  “An Act liberalizing the the importation, exportation, and trading of rice, lifting for the purpose the quantitative import restriction on rice.”

Instead of limiting rice importation in the country, rice imports will just be slapped with a tariff. [Link here]

The aim of the rice tarrification law is to help consumers gain access to cheap rice in the market.

On one hand, the rice tarrification law has a downside to the farmers.

The bad effects of rice tarrification law is now being felt by the rice farmers. For example, the price of rice grain is now being bought from the rice farmers at P7/kilo.

The social media has been flooded by post calling on the Duterte government and the senators to look at the plight the farmers rather than paying too much attention to the plight of the LGBT community.

While some are looking for people to blame and one of the main targets now in social media as the culprit of the rice tarrification law is none other than Senator Cynthia Villar. Why?

I urged you to read the full FB post of netizen Reymond Reyes why his rant on Facebook deserves some space on this blog.
