Facebook netizen Noel Landero Sarifa noted a familiar pattern since the 2016 election and again in the 2019 election and now in the SEA Games how the local media have ruined the image of an individual, a politician or an event. If not for social media, Sarifa asked, will the truth ever come out? Do we just accept their lies peddled by media?

Sarifa declared that the social media has provided netizens the platform to verify the news, to talk and get the side of the other camp, and the opinion of the public. In the pre-social media years, how many lies did the media publish to play with people’s emotions? How many times did the media anger the public using their influence? Sarifa wondered.

In the past, whatever the local media tells the public, it is a no-brainer whose side to believe but the media. But now, we have witnessed how the media twist the story depending on what they want to see or hear from the public.

Sarifa made it clear he is not generalizing the local media but this is truth. It happened not just once, twice or thrice but several times.

Sarifa remarked that in the past, the news was one-sided. What ever story or news the local media feed us, the public swallow it hook, line and sinker like it is the gospel truth. Now, it is clearer according to him why the late President Marcos hated the media very much. Same goes with President Duterte. We saw how the media have wrong perception of what message the President wants to convey. In the past, there was no TV but radio, the opinion of the broadcasters were the voices talking to our brains. Now, it is clearer for us to see the two sides of the story.

In times when everyone can find the truth, let us not allow the local media to poison our minds and destroy our motherland.

2016 Election, 2019 Election and now Sea Games.
