Netizens slam Inquirer, the anti-fake news crusader, for fake news saying Bongbong, Imee “gatecrashed” Panagbenga Festival

Recently, Inquirer posted an article alleging Bongbong and Imee gatecrashed at the 2018 Panagbenga Festival in Baguio City.

In the March 5, 2018 PDI article, the headline reads: “Bongbong, Imee slammed for gatecrashing, politicking Panagbenga Festival” accompanied by the photo of Bongbong and Imee waving at the crowd who trooped to Baguio to witness the annual parade of flowers.

The link was also posted in PDI’s Facebook page on the same date, carrying the same caption as the headline.

However, Inquirer quickly shifted to reverse gear, edited the headline of the article a few minutes after sharing it on its Facebook page.

This time, Inquirer article carried a face-saving headline: “Bongbong, Imee show up at Panagbenga fest on mayor’s invite; netizens react”. [Link here]

Turned out, the Inquirer committed a grave mistake by failing to double check their source before publishing the “Bongbong and Imee gatecrashing Panagbenga Festival” story.

What is more embarrassing on the part of the Inquirer was when the Marcoses shared the letter from the Baguio City mayor inviting Bongbong and Imee to grace the city’s premiere tourist draw, totally destroying whatever credibility Inquirer had.

An enraged Maharlika, a US-based blogger and Marcos supporter called out the Inquirer on Facebook and writes:

“FAKE NEWS ALERT!!!

INQUIRER.net walang

Let us read a sample of the comments on Facebook and see how they react.

Nico Laudit: “INQUIRER without verifying it’s source is spreading FAKE NEWS…anything that can put the Marcoses in bad light…but in the end…their bias reports are always belied!
Credibility…zero!”

Juguilon Manuel: “”We are there as event Marshalls of the Panagbenga Celebration.. kung ang pinagpuputok ng ewan ang Inquirer ay ang pagdalo ng makapatid aba hindi naman pupunta yan kung hindi sila naimbitahan.. gawin pang issue ang gatecrash.. mali ang binalita ng field reporters ninyo… Gov. Imee speaks more on the theme celebration and congratulated its people and visitors anong masama dun..? baka pinag iinitan nila yung pag introduce ni Gov. Imee kay BBM na Vice Predident? True naman na he is the real vp kaso iba lang naiproklama..!”

Julie Ann Rolda-Parcon: “Inquirer please google SLAM definition baka po ang dapat ginamit nyo ay yung opposite meaning since maka opposition kayo obviously 😒”

Meanwhile, some commenters alerted Grace Poe who previously launched a senate probe on fake news.
