No wonder criminals are surrendering to the police without firing a single shot because President-elect Duterte’s hardline stance against illegal drugs caused a chilling effect against criminals.
This has a telling effect in Cebu more than in any other places in the Philippines. First, it was the number 1 most wanted carnapper in Cebu City. Then next, the number 1 drug personality in Mandaue, Cebu surrendered out of fear of Duterte.
In a video posted by SuperBalita Cebu on Facebook, Mandaue City Police Office announced the good news to the Cebu media in a press conference.
The police officer told the Cebu media that the no. 1 drug personality in the citywide “Lambat-Sibat” operation walked in to the Mandaue City Police Station to surrender and expressed interest to turn a new page in his life.
The suspect also surrenders a sachet of a suspected “shabu” and a high-powered firearm with the corresponding ammunitions.
The suspect told the police officer that he keeps a gun for protection purposes.
The “Lambat-Sibat” operation is in consonance with the pronouncements of incoming President Duterte to go hard against various drug personalities in the country, said the police officer.
The suspect is identified as Pablito Veranes, resident of Mandaue City.
The police officer told the Cebu media that the suspect will face charges in violation against the anti-drug trafficking act and also for illegal possession of firearm.
Meanwhile, netizens reacted that the guy is merely a pusher and not a big fish in the illegal drug trade. They want the police to know the source of the illegal drugs by extracting more info from the suspect.
