Philippine Air Force reminds Rio Olympics silver medalist Sgt. Hidilyn Diaz going public isn’t the soldier’s way in open letter

An open letter shared by the Facebook page “Luminous by Trixie Cruz-Angeles & Ahmed Paglinawan” addressed to Sgt. Hidilyn Diaz after she went public to deny her involvement in the so-called destab matrix.

The open letter was credited to the Philippine Air Force, Sgt. Diaz’s mother unit in the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

In the open letter, the PAF congratulated Diaz for bringing glory to the country by virtue of her Rio Olympics silver medal in the women’s weightlifting event.

But the niceties quickly ended here as the sender quickly got down to business, telling Diaz that active and retired members of the AFP wants to remind the lady sergeant that as a soldier, there is a process to follow and going public with her complaint is not one of them.

The letter sender also reminds Sgt. Diaz that as a soldier, President Duterte is the commander-in-chief and as a soldier she is bound to respect the Office of the President. The Office of the President was responsible for the intelligence gathering, wherein her name was dragged in the so-called destabilization matrix.

The Philippine Air Force wrote that although Diaz’s complaint could be legitimate but her method isn’t acceptable.

To give respect to one’s superior while still in active duty is part of the soldier’s discipline.

The open letter says that she is no better, according to a retired General, than soldier’s who face deaths everyday, no matter if she’s an Olympic medalist. Even soldiers who are staring death are not exempted to abandon military discipline. There is an appropriate punishment. This is called conduct unbecoming in military lingo.

Before ending the letter, the Philippine Air Force reminded Sgt. Diaz once again, in case she has new complaint to bring to the proper forum. Because, a soldier isn’t supposed to embarrass the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

You may read the open letter below now.

Sgt. Hidilyn Diaz,

You are no better, ani ng isang retired na opisyal, than the soldiers who face death everyday, kesehodang may medalya ka. May pananagutan yan.
