It appears that President-elect Rodrigo Duterte is bent on fulfilling his campaign promise to do something about the slow internet speed in the country.
In a news report by GMA News Online, President-elect Rodrigo Duterte told the media on Saturday evening that he is working out a policy to fix the slow and unreliable internet service in the country.
It can be recalled that in the May 2015 article of GMA News, the Philippines was ranked 21st out of the 22 countries with the slowest internet speed.
President-elect Duterte was quoted as saying that “if telcos fail to shape up, the industry would be opened to foreign competition.”
President-elect Duterte has also issued a warning to the energy sector during the same media event.
I will open the industry to foreign investors to improve services and bring down power rates, one of the highest in Asia.
The incoming President expressed interest in the renewable energy sector particularly in the solar panels, saying the cost has been reduced dramatically over the years compared when the technology during its infancy stage.
