A pretty Grade 10 student in Masbate was found in a muddy part of a river, cold and lifeless after she reported missing since February 14, 2017.
Police Senior Inspector Alvaro Ventabal of the Police Community Relations (PCR) Office, Masbate City identified the victim as Mariah Aira Dalanon Po, 17 years old, Grade 10 student of Alejandro Delos Reyes Integrated High School (ADRIHS) a resident of Brgy. Cagay, Masbate City.
The suspect was the girl’s uncle, Amador Cos Dalanon, 32 years old, with live-in partner and resident of Purok 1, Brgy. Cagay, Masbate City.
According to Rovelyn Dalanon, 39 years old, mother of the victim and sister of the suspect, Mariah Airao failed to go home on February 14.
Alarmed, the mother reported the matter to the police on February 15.
Two days after Mariah Po disappeared, at 7 AM in the morning, she was found face down in the muddy part of the river in Purok 6, Brgy. Cagay, Masbate City.
The victim’s body was brought to the funeral parlor for an autopsy.
According to the account of a lone witness, the uncle was the last person seen in the company of the victim.
The suspect was immediately apprehended by the barangay tanods of the same barangay.
According to SPO1 Arlene Jones of the Women and Children’s Protection Desk (WCPD), the suspect admitted the crime. He said he strangled his niece to death, then rap$d her even when his niece was already dead.
The suspect is now facing charges of rape with homicide.
