Long-time Zambales resident and Scottish lady named Sherry Zimmer has responded to Bishop Teodoro Bacani’s ‘friendly dare’ addressed to PRRD in an open letter posted on Facebook.
Zimmer opened the open letter by telling the Bishop about her take of the ‘friendly dare’ which she said does not not appear friendly to her.
Zimmer went on to share the anecdote of PRRD driving around Davao City alone, disguised as a taxi driver to monitor the peace and order of the city.
From what she has been told, Zimmer said PRRD has done the same and saw first hand the dirt and filth in areas which should have been cleaned by the Mayor by the area and barangay officials.
Zimmer believed that Bacani is simply scared of PRRD’s rhetoric and incessant prodding of the public to read the controversial book ‘Altar of Secrets by Aries C. Rufo’s because the Bishop was mentioned in the book.
However, Zimmer remarked that this is an old issue and wants to turn the page and move forward.
In fact, Zimmer invited Bishop Teodoro Bacani to attend the One Million Candle Rally which will be held this Saturday, January 19, 2019 at the Quirino Grandstand, Rizal Park, Manila.
The rally coincided with the 40th day of the abduction, torture and murder of a young man called Richard ‘Red’ Santillan.

OPEN LETTER TO BISHOP TEODORO BACANI
Dear Bishop Bacani,
Your recent dare or ‘friendly challenge’ to President Duterte does not appear friendly to me.
You were quoted as saying, “I have a friendly challenge to President Duterte. It’s simple. We bishops, we roam the streets without bodyguards, no bullet-proof vests, no security aids around us, no firearms. That’s how we are.”
Sir, you seemingly have no idea the history of President Duterte – who was often alone in Davao when he drove around pretending to be a taxi driver. By doing this, in the evenings, without companions, he was able to monitor potential crime creators. From what I have been told, he has done the same in Manila and saw, first-hand, the dirt and filth in areas which should have been cleaned by the Mayor of the area and the barangay officials.
I think maybe you are probably afraid of his rhetoric and his continual request for people to read Aries C. Rufo’s ‘Altar of Secrets’. I am sure you are aware that you are mentioned in this book and how you had to tender your resignation after Mr. Rufo wrote an exposé about the sexual complaint against you
But that is old history, so may I respectfully ask you, to take your fellow priests and attend the One Million Candle Rally which will be held this Saturday, January 19, 2019 at the Quirino Grandstand, Rizal Park, Manila. This is the 40th day of the abduction, torture and murder of a young man called Richard ‘Red’ Santillan. The Program starts at 3pm – Candle lighting at 6pm. Everyone is taking 10 candles each and a trash bag to keep the area clean.
This is my ‘friendly challenge’ to you, Bishop Bacani – attend the One Million Candle Rally.
