Sad: Bystanders watched helplessly while Meralco employee was drowning in the Pasig River

The drowning victim from Meralco could have survived if he was still alive after it hit it a tree, but unfortunately, none of the bystanders who witnessed the accident failed to overcome their fears of the darkness and the murky water of the Pasig River.

The Meralco employee died early morning when the car he was driving plunged into the Pasig River in Makati City, November 21, 2015. He was only 27 years old, according to the police report.

The victim was identified as Jose Marie Garcia del Rosario, a substationman of Meralco and a resident of 8 Matimtiman Street, Barangay Dolores, Taytay City.

The companion of the driver Robert Rillera, managed to get out of the sinking Toyota Vios before the Pasig River slowly devoured the car and the driver who was trapped inside the car.

According to the initial investigation of the Makati police, the Toyota Vios was cruising along J.P. Rizal St. in Makati en route to Pateros when suddenly the driver lost control of the car and plunge straight to the murky water of Pasig river. Reports said that the exact point where the car plunged was in front of Guadalupe BLISS.

The Toyota Vios was retrieved by Meralco crane at around 9:30 in the morning and sadly, Del Rosario was still strapped into the driver’s seat.

HEARTBREAKING PART

Toyota Vios of Meralco sinking in Pasig River video 1

The driver could have survived had the people who witnessed the accident did not dilly-dally in helping the poor guy. The video below would attest to this.

A netizen wrote to Top Gear Philippines that he wanted to help the driver since he know how to swim, but since he just recovered from a fractured extremity, he was afraid he could drown as well.

He narrated that there were only a few people loitering in the scene of the accident and none of them know how to swim or did not care much at all. Well, let’s give the benefit of the doubt.

THE CAR HIT A TREE BEFORE PLUNGING INTO THE PAISG RIVER

According to witnesses, the Toyota Vios hit a tree before it plunged into the Pasig River. This account of the witness should once and for all settle the lingering questions why the driver failed to get out of the car before the Toyota Vios went down into the depths of the river. The impact, according to the witness could have disoriented the driver (Meralco employee) which led to his drowning.

This happened 5:30am at Guadalupe Bliss in Makati City (Pasig River).
