A WEDDING IN A FUNERAL
Today, parents, relatives and friends laid to rest our dear Danica (my husband’s cousin.)
She could have been a radiant bride in a military wedding that she and her fiance, Bryan, planned to hold in June this year. They have started preparing for the grand celebration. Danica handcrafted the giveaways herself. They have paid for the gown, reception, flower arrangements, caterers, etc. But a fatal car crash took everything away. Danica, 23, died instantaneously when the car she was riding, driven by her father, crashed into a parked wing van in Barangay Pasil, Santander on March 25. She was 4 months pregnant. She came from a check up when the accident happened.
Wanting to push thru with the wedding, Bryan asked the church if he can marry Danica on the day she was to be brought to her final resting place. The priest agreed to let them walk down the aisle and the church to have a wedding set up. But the ceremony had to be a requiem mass because, the priest explained, weddings are only for the living.
And before the ceremony ended, Bryan kissed her bride one last time.
Farewell, Inday Nica. You are a beautiful angel now.
