Video: Real “sigbin” captured in Cebu? Find out if this for real

A picture of a caged creature purportedly that of ‘sigbin’ captured in the province of Cebu is doing the rounds online.

‘Sigbin’ is a nocturnal animal associated with the ‘aswang’ in the Visayas region.

According to wikipedia, “Sigbin is a creature in Philippine mythology said to come out at night to suck the blood of victims from their shadows. It is said to walk backwards with its head lowered between its hind legs, and to have the ability to become invisible to other creatures, especially humans.”

However, a video of the caged animal said to be that of ‘sigbin’ ended up in my news feed and upon closer inspection, the animal in the viral photo is one and the same of the animal in the video that I accidentally found.

Digging deeper, I found an interesting comment that hopefully would shed light into the identity of the captured animal.

A commenter by the name Lisa Hartman said, “Its a Malaysian sun bear with terrible mange.”

Another netizen, named Niel Maceda concur the statement of Lisa, “This is a Poor Sun Bear Cub with Demodectic Mange… The poor creature has been separated from its mother, most likely as she has been killed for her Gal Bladder for her Bile, used in Chinese Medicine.”

Try comparing the creature above and below and arrive with your own conclusion.

Can anyone tell us what kind of creature this is??

What can you say about this? Do you believe this is a ‘sigbin’ or a Sun Bear?
