A Jordanian actress making a mockery of Filipinos on Lebanese TV has evoked a flurry of angry reactions from Filipinos around the world after the video went viral.
In the video, the Jordanian actress Mais Hamdan narrated her encounter with Filipino sales ladies in Dubai shopping malls with matching ‘funny’ English accents of Filipinos.
The studio audience can be heard laughing in the background while Ms. Hamdan was delivering her punch lines.
However, Ms. Hamdan’s ‘funny’ impersonation of the English accents of Filipinos did not sound ‘funny’ at all to Filipinos from around the world.
But the most passionate video response on Facebook to Hamdan’s video came from a British national named Malcolm Conlan, venting his frustration and anger at the Jordanian actress for making a joke out of Filipinos whom he loved so much like his own.
Conlan said what Hamdan fails to realize is, if it wasn’t for Filipinos, the Middle East would be a lonely place indeed.
Filipinos are engaged in many different professions including as pilots, as engineers, customer services roles in the major hotels in the world, in the medical professions as nurses, doctors as health care assistants, as cleaners in hospitals.
Conlan said that Hamdan needs to learn to appreciate what the Filipinos have done for the Middle East.
Conlan asked what’s wrong with people speaking with different ways.
Conlan accuses Hamdan of trying to earn her 5-minutes of fame at the expense of Filipinos which he said is ironic since she is already popular in the Middle East.
At one point, Conlan asked Hamdan to imagine herself in the shoes of Filipinos by leaving her children to be cared for by relatives, 4,500 Miles away for year upon year, ending up earning very little and being treated as a slave, only to find when she finally goes back home, her children don’t remember her!!!
Conlan asked Hamdan to issue a public apology including the audience and the TV presenter for committing a wrong to the Filipino community around the world.
You may watch the video below for more details.
Why make fun of Filipinos?
Without Filipinos, the Middle East would be in great crisis.
Try leaving your children to be cared for by relatives, 4,500 Miles away for year upon year, ending up earning very little and being treated as a slave, only to find when you finally go back home, your children don’t remember you!!!
(I understand that Mais has apologised, which some have accepted, but so many times, people would make fun or mock Filipinos and then apologise and think that’s the end of the story, this needs to change)
