Instead of happy memories, VP Leni Robredo’s visit to Berlin, Germany has turned out to be a disaster and a public relations nightmare after her photo angered the internet.
In case you don’t know, Robredo and a few Liberal Party personalities like former Budget Secretary Butch Abad, Bolet Banal, Rep. Teddy Baguilat and Sen. Kiko Pangilinan traveled to London and Berlin for a speaking engagement and study visit program respectively.
Robredo’s visit to London went smoothly except for a group of noisy and placards-bearing critics who waited outside the London School of Economics to greet Robredo.
After London, Robredo and her gang traveled to Berlin and met with members of the German government and civil society organizations while on a study visit program.
Despite her schedule, Robredo and her Liberal Partymates did not waste the opportunity to tour popular sites in Berlin, including this park below.
Like any tourist, Robredo and her Liberal Party mates took a group picture of the places of they visited as a remembrance of their visit.
Here’s one of their photos that made it to social media.
While the photo above may seem harmless and innocent, it does not help either that VP Robredo and her gang forgot that they have chosen to make “pa-tweetums” in a place that bears significant meaning to descendants of more than a million Jews who suffered unspeakable horrors in World War 2.
Well, that’s how lawyer Trixie Cruz-Angeles sees it and she expressed her dismay towards the vice-president via an open letter on Facebook.
Dear VP Leni:
I am not sure if anyone has informed you of the etiquette involved in taking pictures at this site. BUT this is a place of great sorrow, great tragedy.
You do not take pictures here and smile like nag fashion shoot ka. The place deserves solemnity and reverence and yes, mourning.
Damn. Your party and sympathizers consider proDuterte people bastos and walang modo. But you…you are plainly disrespectful and, ignorant.
Sa kasamaang palad, tinaguriang Bise Presidente ka pa rin ng bansa. Kaya please lang, lalo na sa byahe byahe mong yan, wag tatanga tanga. Dala mo pa rin pangalan ng bansa. Ugh.
Robredo’s photo at the Holocaust Memorial site has gathered 2,468 shares, 6,371 reactions and 1,148 comments on Facebook.
Ariane Estrada Basinang lashes at Robredo in reaction to the Holocaust groupie. “How can u pose and smile in a place like this Leni Robredo? pictorial session tlga.. Shame on u..fake vp na nga, bobo pa..”
