Presidential spokesperson Ernesto Abella announced the intention of Japan Prime Minister to visit President Rodrigo Duterte’s humble house in Davao City on Friday, January 13, 2017.
Prime Minister Abe arrives on Thursday in Manila and fly to Davao City the following day to meet President Duterte at his house in Dona Luisa Subdivision, Matina, Davao City.
Sought for Abe’s purpose in going to Davao City, Abella replied, “The two leaders have struck a certain resonant chord between the two of them, apparently Prime Minister Abe wants to visit the President’s house. So it’s interesting!”
Abella said that the two leaders are expected to touch on matters involving regional issues, business and counterterrorism.
Abe will meet with business groups, both in Davao and Manila, Abella told the reporters who attended the Malacanang press briefing.
Kyodo News previously reported, Foreign Affairs Secretary Yasay said that a number of activities, including visits to an international university being built by Japan in Davao and to historical sites and markers, have been prepared for the first ever visit by a foreign head to the country’s third most populous city, which has over 1.6 million people, Davao City.
