“You think you sound cute and poignant with what you said?”
This is the question posed by lawyer Trixie Cruz-Angeles to Senator Joel Villanueva who quipped that he is struggling to get a grip of the thought that one morning he wakes up and ABS-CBN is gone.
Angeles lectured Villanueva about the difference how a person feels when something that brings him happiness versus something that gives a person pain or anxiety moves on. “Senator dude, when something good and valuable moves on, the people who used to experience it daily don’t really think it’s gone. And they don’t really feel at all hurt by its passing.”
Angeles agreed that we feel nostalgia when something good and valuable moves on but nostalgia is associated with happiness and fulfillment not that feeling of dread of Villanueva imagine would happen to him doesn’t come from anywhere that is pleasant. “There’s nostalgia, yes. But nostalgia comes from a place of happiness and fulfillment. That feeling of dread of what you imagine would happen to you doesn’t seem to come from anywhere that is good. Fear, anxiety and pain don’t sound valuable to anyone at all.”
Angeles pretended to ask Villanueva as if she was talking to the senator in person.. “You know who gets to experience these things inevitably, though?”
Angeles went on to answer her own questions supposedly intended for Senator Villanueva for the benefit of netizens. “Uhuh. The smoker going cold turkey. The drunk on his 3rd day on pure water. The addict on withdrawal.”
“You think you sound cute and poignant with what you said?” Angeles asked Villanueva in a sarcastic tone.
“You’re funny, dude.” Angeles complimented Villanueva in a sarcastic tine.
