This is how lawyer PM Dizon summarized his sentiment after outgoing UN High Commissioner for human rights Zeid Raad al-Hussein remarked that Sen. Leila de Lima has been arbitrarily imprisoned without trial for 18 months.
Dizon commented that Al-Hussein was either misled, misinformed or lied to or perhaps a liar with an agenda.
For the enlightenment of Al-Hussein, Dizon explained that de Lima is in prison as a detention prisoner because the evidence of her guilt is strong.
He added this is allowed under Philippine Constitution for crimes classified as non-bailable.
Dizon ended the post with an emphatic statement that neither De Lima nor her lawyers can claim there is no trial when they participated in the legal proceedings.
This is bullshit. The outgoing UN High Commissioner for human rights Zeid Raad al-Hussein said that Sen. Leila de Lima has now been arbitrarily imprisoned without trial for 18 months. He is either misled, misinformed, or lied to. Or maybe, he’s just a liar with an agenda.
The truth is that De Lima is in prison as a detention prisoner because the evidence of her guilt is strong. This is allowed under the constitution for crimes where bail can be withheld. She has also been using all her legal remedies. An aspect of her case had even reached the Supreme Court, and was ruled on.
Neither De Lima nor her lawyers can claim that there is no trial when they themselves participated in those legal proceedings. You can even find the oral arguments online in the SC website.

Nerissa Arias Donato When will the Philippines declare Zeid Raad al-Hussein as a persona non grata? Masyado na tayong niyuyurakan nitong UNHR Commissioner na ito pero bakit deadma lang ang gobyerno?
