Fiery Cebuano lawyer Bruce Rivera lashed at Akbayan Representative Tom Villarin for his choice of words in describing the state visit of Chinese President to the Philippines.
In a meme posted by News5, Villarin was quoted saying that “the visit of the Chinese President Xi Jinping to the Philippines is akin to a conquering emperor being accorded all the dignities by a vassal state, referring to the Philippines.”
“Tayo na yata ang bansang sinasamantala na, pinupuri pa at pinaparangalan pa ang mga nanamantala. (We are the only nation who has been oppressed and yet we praised and honor our oppressors.)
It’s disgraceful that we have stopped so low and allowed this assault on our sovereignty and dignity.”
In Facebook post, a highly annoyed Rivera wasted no time in giving his piece of mind to the opposition and left-leaning Congressman.
In the post, Rivera began by giving Villarin a refresher on the concept of state visit and protocols.
Rivera remarked that as a congressman, it was disgusting to know that he was ignorant of the word “protocol”.
Second, Rivera reminded Villarin that the Philippines extends the same level of pageantry to any visiting head of state.
In the same breath, Rivera couldn’t help but recall when Pnoy sent Kris Aquino to meet the visiting Mexican President at NAIA, thus breaking diplomatic protocol.
Third, Rivera asked Villarin if he was a left-leaning politician. If yes, then Rivera figured that he should have been a picture of happiness because of our friendship with China, whom he shared with the same political ideology of socialism/communism.
Rivera remarked that the last time he checked, the Makabayan bloc is an anti-US imperialism.
Fourth, Rivera said that even nations in conflict, it is incumbent upon the receiving state to give a head of state the right to safe passage and given all the diplomatic immunities and privileges.
Rivera ended the post by posing a dare to Representative Villarin: “If you want to disrespect the so-called oppressors, why not do it yourself and see how brave you really are.”

Palagi ko naiinterview itong si Rep. Villarin kaso talagang hindi ko kaya ang mga sinabi niya. Kailangan sagutin.
Sir, una sa lahat, hindi ko alam bakit hindi mo nakuha ang concept ng state visit. Kailangan natin asikasuhin ang head of state na iniimbita natin.
Pangalawa, we extend the same level of pageantry to any head of state na bibisita. Nakalimutan mo na ba kung paano tayo naghanda sa state visit ng Presidente ng Mexico tapos biglang walang PNoy na nagpakita at si Kris ang pinasundo breaking all protocol.
Pangatlo, di ba left leaning ka? Dapat masaya ka na friendship natin ang China kasi you share the same political ideology of socialism/communism. The last time I checked, ang ayaw ng Makabayan ay US imperialism.
Pangatlo, kahit pa nga magkaaway ang dalawang bansa, it is incumbent upon the receiving state to give a head of state the right to safe passage and given all the diplomatic immunities and privileges.
