A former member of the Commission on Audit for 20 years has taken to social media to express his sadness that COA is being politically weaponized to pursue an obvious agenda, which is to demonize the Chief Executive.
A certain netizen named Jun Virts said he found it odd to witness the clash between the President and some officials of COA after the latter earned the ire of the President because of its rather stringent rules. As a former COA employee, Jun understand COAs mandate – to safeguard the scarce resources of the government while the President’s job is to promote the welfare of the public. COA being merely a subsystem of the government, its job is to support the State goals.
The Commission on Audit is presently in the limelight. This started when PRRD vented his ire and frustration against the said office relative to its rather stringent rules. COA is constitutionally mandated to safeguard the scarce resources of the government while the President is the Chief Executive, the government head and the implementer of laws. The government’s role is to promote the general welfare of the citizens. Since COA is merely a subsystem in the scheme of governance, therefore its role specifically the auditors, is merely to support this State goal. It is therefore peculiar witnessing a clash between the President and some concerned officials of the Supreme Audit Institution.
Jun Virts remarked in the 20 years of service in COA, he never witnessed a conflict between the Executive department and his agency. He said he felt sad to say but he feels COA is being hijacked and politically weaponized to demonize President Duterte. He hope the kinks between the Chief Executive and COA will soon be ironed out.
I started working in COA during Chairman’s Tantuico’s era and in my 20 years of service until 2005, I never experience a conflict such as this. Sad to say but I feel that COA is being politically weaponized to pursue an obvious agenda which is to demonize the Chief Executive. We cannot just discount this perception since the national election is just around the corner. Being a former COA employee I just hope that harmony will be achieved between the warring factions and that kinks will soon be ironed out. To the COAn’s I appeal to you to pray for discernment, be proactive by not just precipitately taking sides blindly. Our loyalty should be with our motherland and the public in general.
