A soldier they say has one foot in the grave even before he goes to battle.
So it is not surprising that as the Marawi conflict rages on, some soldier pens a farewell letter to his loved one because of the uncertainty of wa and not knowing if he is coming back alive.
Retired military official and a former Scout Ranger Abe Purugganan shared the story of Scout Ranger Sgt Jeff Sangdaan who wrote an emotional farewell letter to his pregnant wife before he was killed by a Maute sniper in the Marawi conflict.
In the letter, Sangdaan wishes he could kiss his wife for the last time but that won’t happen as he was already cold and lifeless, waiting for her to claim his cadaver.
He also requested his wife to bury him at the edge of town, in a nice plot where there were flowers.
Likewise, he talked about wanting to see his first daughter coming out of the world and hope she will look after the mother but brave like him who will stand up for the weak.
He also give his wife the permission to marry another man because that is his wish.
And lastly, he asked his wife to tell his mother not to feel sad anymore, and his father that he has no regrets following his footsteps as a soldier.
Sangdaan’s emotional letter addressed to his wife moved netizens to tears.
“Habang binabasa mo to. At habang binabasa mo to andun nako.
