Former Ambassador demands explanation from University of Makati, Manny Pacquiao how he got his degree

Former Ambassador and journalist Bobi Tiglao has joined the thousands of netizens demanding an explanation from Senator Manny Pacquiao how he got his college degree at University of Makati in just three months?

“Pacquiao/UMak should explain how he got his BS degree,” Tiglao wrote.

Tiglao wants Senator Pacquiao and University of Makati needs to disclose assessment report to clear the cloud of doubts hovering over Pacquiao’s college degree.

“Senator Pacquiao and the University of Makati should disclose the full details (assessment report, mainly) how he got a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Makati in just three months.”

Although Tiglao admits that there are special cases wherein an applicant’s work could be substituted for the the subjects of the degree he is applying for.

“What I know of such degrees being given is after the board of the university concludes that an applicant’s work could be substituted for the subjects of the degree he is applying for. For example, a mayor certainly can claim his work as mayor can substitute for units in a political science degree.”

However, Tiglao cannot accept the fact that Pacquiao can claim he deserves a polsci degree when he was a boxer before politics.

“I can’t imagine how Pacquiao can claim he deserves a political science degree because of his years as a boxer. The most Pacquiao could have gotten from an academic institution would be an honoris causa or honorary degree, maybe in physical education, or sports science.”

Tiglao wrapped the FB post by drawing a scenario for Pacquiao in case he can’t explain how he earned his degree or if it was earned via fraudulent means. As for University of Makati, Tiglao has bad news for the school.

“If Pacquiao can’t explain how he got this degree, or if it was really fraudulent, he would be committing some crime (falsification of public records or bribery of public officials, ie. the University of Makati officials). If that university can’t explain why it gave Pacquiao that degree, the Commission on Higher Education should close it down, as it has violated that most important prerequisite for a university, which is to award degrees only according to its regulations.”
