In case you’ve missed the Pilipinas Debates 2 in Cebu, you may watch the video below.
This is the debate that Rappler said Grace Poe won. Professor Antonio Contreras disagreed and I quote:
Haha. Rappler judged that Poe won the debate. I must have watched the wrong debate then.
But here’s how Ira Panganiban summarizes the Pilipinas Debates 2 in Cebu.
My thoughts?
Binay is not very articulate. Duterte acts like a neighborhood goon. Poe revealed her amateurish mind. Roxas talks too much to cover stress and pikon. And that is our line-up of possible leaders for the next 6-years. Are we sure they are our only choice?
Do you agree how Mr. Panganiban sees your candidate in the debate?
Here’s how Atty. Bruce Rivera saw Duterte’s performance in the Pilipinas Debates 2 in Cebu:
Mayor Duterte
So it is still Duterte for me. He is not a good debater because a leader does not debate to get things done. A leader does not need to make point in two minutes because a leader just get things done, most of the time without talking and debating. Because if you are good in talking and debating, the Senate and Congress is the best job for you.
The executive branch is implementing and doing. I need a man who will do it and not just talk about it.
The Rappler seems to agree Atty Rivera’s assessment on Duterte’s performance in the debate because Mayor Rodrigo Duterte was the runaway winner in the online voting conducted by Rappler after the Pilinas Debate 2 in Cebu.
Do you have any suggestion/s to make the Presidential debates better?
Binay is out of his elements in this debate. No clear answer but always defensive and tries to veer far from the issue!
I guess Ira Panganiban’s Ideal leader somehow must be the one we called ROBOT.
IRA PANGANIBAN………….. ARE YOU A REPORTER? ARE YOU A NEWS CASTER? ARE YOU A POILITICAL ANALYST? NEIGHBORHOOD GOON? WHY???????? DUTERTE IS A BISAYA……. SO? HE WAS A PROSECUTOR………. SO HE IS A LAWYER……; YOU? YOU ARE JUST IRA PANGANIOBAN…
Binay’s performance in the debate is just terrible, he heavily reliant on notes and answers horribly and tries to trigger fights with the other candidates. He constantly stutters and keeps praising himself like he’s some kind of perfect human being.
Poe displays somewhat of a “play-safe” attitude where she barely makes her own stance on the topics and just rides along with other candidate’s answers while modifying and expanding on the thought. She seems like a well-read person with regards to certain topics, but of course, some were unrealistic like she wants a cheaper and a greener source of electricity and keeps saying solar energy is the answer(Solar Panels take up way too much space and produces insufficient amount of electricity for a whole city and its really expensive.)
Mar Roxas’ performance is just rubbish. He keeps interrupting other candidate’s stances but when other candidates try to interrupt him he keeps saying “Its my time”. His “daang matuwid” is just ripping off duterte’s federalism plan. He brings out statistics into his discussion, though most statistical data gathered is very unreliable.. If I say 10 out of 15 filipinos have cancer, that wouldn’t make it data. Statistics is great and all for data analysis, but numbers can easily be altered. Most of his achievements that he boasted barely isnt even his to begin with. And what really sticks out the most is that he keeps chattering making the explanation unclear.
Duterte is a bit different with his approach on this debate, he keeps silent for most of the blabber between the candidates. When he gets asked a question, he responds again with another question. He appears very close-minded in some topics, he appears very charismatic and plays some stuff as a joke. But what I appreciated was when he asked Roxas about the yolanda fundings and made a mistake, he apologized. Among the three he barely tried to pick a fight(except for Roxas, but come on, Roxas really was a dick during the debate). But, what Duterte lacked during the debate is thorough explanation with regards to some of his plans.
Over all, its either Poe or Duterte, both did not lose their composure. Poe focuses on details on the topic, while Duterte focuses on the overview. Both of them can be excellent leaders. But, I wouldn’t want someone who just came back from america to be president of the phil.
I agree with you…and if i ay add…wag naman sa another babae again na puro puso at bats pa. Aminin man natin sa Hindi, she’ s very inexperience. Maybe next election na lang. Makaahon muna tayo ngayon sa aging kinalulugmukan ga kapwa ko pinoy. Para na lang sa mga bata.
The panel asking the question should be the one to make follow-up question, not the other presidential candidate, so that he can determine if the candidate directly answered his question, or if he needs further explanation.
I agree. The host did a bad job in the debate. She not only was not focused, she had no control. Rosas and Binary looked like 2 spoil kids wanting more time than given to them and showed some tantrum when being challenged.
Duterte was amazingly relaxed and focused so was Poe but when Poe was asked a question not rehearsed in her mind by Duterte, she was at a lost and at the end did not answer the question. Bottom line, she lacks experience and I don’t like the idea of powerful men are behind her spending for her campaign. What favors will she be obligated and for sure need to repay if she is elected? This is what Filipinos need to think about.
I was impressed with each candidate’s ( Duterte, Poe and Roxas) behavior prior to the debate. Instead of getting angry, because of the unexpected delay, the three of them managed to cling unto maintaining their level of equanimity while waiting. A little agitation was shown by Mar Roxas but he still composed himself towards the end. They are refulgent examples of forbearance!!! KUDOS!
