Iloilo mayor draws flaks from netizens after photo of his alleged white house mansion surfaces online

If it rains, it really pours!

After President Duterte named the Iloilo Mayor as of one the local politicians allegedly involved in the illegal drug trade, another headache hangs over the head of Mayor Jed Mabilog of Iloilo, this time, the photo of his palatial mansion surfaces online.

In a Facebook post, netizen Bryle Ramirez shared a meme showing a comparison between the humble house of long-time Davao City Mayor and now President Duterte and that of the palatial home of Mayor Jed Mabilog of Iloilo City.

In another Facebook post, self-declared social media crusader named Manuel Boy Mejorada provided intriguing details to the saga of the white house mansion of Iloilo Mayor Jed Mabilog.

The house of Mayor Jed Mabilog sits on the banks of the Iloilo River, with a P90 million Esplanade built for its occupant by the government for the sake of “beautification,” the post from the website, reads.

“In his 2014 Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth, Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog declared the value of the mansion at P3 million pesos. But architects and engineers estimate the value of this mansion to be in the range of P50-70 million, considering that its windows are the expensive Kenneth and Mock glass windows. The windows alone would be worth P7 million considering the size of the house, according to a wealthy friend who also has Kenneth and Mock windows installed on his house,” the post continues.

According to Mayor Jed Mabilog, he inherited his wealth from his mother.

However, the website disagrees with the mayor.

That’s a blatant lie. His mother was never rich. That lot on which the mansion stands was donated to his mother by the Consing family for whom she had served as “mayor doma” for a long time. If you come to think of it, the property belongs to the family, and not to Jed alone.

Aside from inheriting his wealth, Mayor Jed Mabilog also claimed that his wife works in Canada as an accountant.

But the website dismisses his defense as questionable.

How much does an accountant earn in Canada? She is not even chief executive officer, and the company is small.

In March 2016, the Office of the Ombudsman filed against Mayor Jed Mabilog for violating Republic Act No. 1379 or the Unexplained Wealth Act.

Quoting the article posted by the Philippine Daily Inquirer regarding this matter, “Ombudsman-Visayas said Mabilog’s net worth as indicated in his statement of assets, liabilities and net worth (SALN) increased from P7.37 million in 2004 to P9.711 million in 2005. It rose to P16.51 million in 2006 and spiked to P44.45 million in 2007.”

Mayor Mabilog’s lawyer, Atty. Joenar Pueblo refutes the accusation and said they have all the documents to prove the innocence of his client.

“We have all the documents which we will submit to the Ombudsman to show that the increase in (Mabilog’s) net worth is justifiable.”

Meanwhile, the photo of the white house mansion of Mayor Jed Mabilog has been drawing mixed reactions from netizens.

Netizen Teresa Pond Angcos says:

I am a Canadian and even if she does earn 6 digit here as an accountant 60% of that money goes to mortgage, tax, insurance and other incidental expenses so if you do the math, I don’t think you have that much left to build a mansion? It must be from other business? Monkey? More so it it was done fast ang quick? Puzzling indeed

Netizen Cicero Milan says:

He should be charged accordingly once found guilty of lies and source from illegal activity (drug) he should be jailed para hindi pamarisan.

Netizen Saantos George says:
