Incoming Agrarian Reform Chief wants to make an example of Hacienda Luisita. Must Read!!!

With the recent pronouncements of the incoming Secretary of the Department of Agrarian Reform, the owners of the Hacienda have every reason to be nervous these days!

DAR Sec. wants to make an example of Hacienda Luisita

In a video interview published by the Facebook page Kilaw Multimedia, incoming DAR Secretary Rafael Mariano says that he will immediately review the status of the Hacienda Luisita Estate four years after the Supreme Court ordered the distribution to farmer beneficiaries in April 2012.

In addition, the incoming DAR Secretary will also review the alleged 1.3 billion pesos for reimbursement to the original farm worker beneficiaries of the Hacienda Luisita Estate.

Secretary Rafael Mariano says that he will also look into the alleged 471.5 million pesos that came from DAP as just compensation to the Cojuangco-Aquino family of Hacienda Luisita.

Secretary Mariano assures the farmer beneficiaries of Hacienda Luisita that their rights will be fully protected under his watch and they will get what is due to them.

The incoming DAR Secretary also expresses his willingness in continuing the coverage of the 358 hectares of land in Hacienda Luisita that was issued a notice of coverage in December 2013.

Lastly, the incoming DAR Secretary wants the DAR Central Office to act on the petition for revocation of the conversion order involving 500 hectares out of the 6,453-hectares Hacienda Luisita Estate issued in 1996 that has been filed years ago.

Meanwhile, the incoming Secretary of the Department of Agrarian Reform told the reporter that his plan of action is to protect and strengthen the position of the farmer-workers in relation to the land that they farm.

He explains that this is in line with the statement of the President-elect when he was invited in a forum called “Peasants Challenge – 2016 and beyond” wherein the latter said the land reform in the country is a failure. Nevertheless, the farmers tilling the land should be given protection so that they can continue to cultivate the land.

In addition to protecting the farmers, the President-elect wants to have a quick inventory of the lands that were already distributed allegedly to the farmers under the country’s land reform program.
