Legal expert bares why jailed Senator Leila de Lima’s refuses to talk to Ombudsman re IRR of GCTA law, says she’s no longer the DOJ Secretary

Oh! In case you missed it, jailed Senator Leila de Lima refuses to talk about the GCTA law or answer to a query that exclusively pertains to the official business of the Department of Justice because she’s no longer the SOJ.

That’s what she told reporters when sought for comment after Ombudsman Martires expressed interest in asking De Lima after BuCor officials and the DOJ blamed the confusing provisions in the GCTA law’s IRR which as we all know was prepared by the jailed Senator when she PNoy’s SOJ.

Aside from De Lima, the Ombudsman has also expressed keen interest in inviting former DILG Secretary Mar Roxas, who along with De Lima prepared, signed and approved the IRR of the GCTA law.

Legal expert and DDS blogger Trixie Cruz-Angeles couldn’t help but pokes fun at De Lima’s drama kesyo she’s no longer the DOJ Secretary but a senator when the controversial GCTA law paved the way for the released of thousands of convicts jailed for committing heinous crimes.

Worse, de Lima Angeles noted wanted to wash her hands on RA10592 and simply wanted to play evasive.

Angeles remarked she sees no issues if she answer the questions of the Ombudsman as a witness. Since she was one of the officials who operationalized the law on good conduct time allowance.

Angeles added, De Lima is not being questioned as a Senator but she answered the questions as one. Said De Lima just wanted to remind the public she is a senator though jailed senator at that.

Angeles speculated de Lima is playing evasive because she might be asked as a potential beneficiary of the law, that may jeopardize her chances of availing GCTA in the future?

Umiiwas si Madame. Panay “official capacity” ang hanash. She claims she as senator has nothing to do with RA10592.

Jusko. Problema ba ang sagutin ang mga tanong ni Ombudsman, as sagutin ang mga ito as a witness? As one of the officials who operationalized the law on good conduct time allowances?

Di naman siya tinatanong as a senator. Pero sinasagot niya as one. Gusto lang kasi niyang ipaalala na senadora siya. Kahit nakakulong. Baka naman kasi daw tinatanong siya as a potential beneficiary of the law, mahirap na.
