“The mother was shocked to see the “nurse” in white carrying the baby to the exit door on the way to the parking lot.” Philippine daily Inquirer
If you are the mother of the newborn baby and you watched your angel being kidnapped right in front of your eyes, how would you react?
One can only imagine how the 27-year old mother from Minglanilla, Cebu must have felt when she saw the young lady ran away with her baby.
“She tried to give chase, but was purportedly blocked by the guard,” said Senior Insp. Randy Caballes, chief of Police Station 2.
The 2-day old baby was already transferred to the Child Survival Center with his mother when a woman wearing all-white uniform approached the mother in the pretext of giving the baby an anti-dengue shot in the laboratory.
The mother narrated she did not suspect something was amiss since the woman was wearing the same uniform of the medical personnel walking around in the hospital — loose pants and V-necked shirt commonly worn by medical personnel — and a face mask.
The baby’s mother Jayvee, accompanied the ‘nurse’ to the hospital laboratory room, but was told to wait outside since mother’s are not allowed to go in, said the baby’s father, Jonathan.
A few winks later, the mother saw the ‘nurse’ went out of the exit door with her baby on the way to the parking lot. The shocked mother tried to give chase to the suspect, but the guards stopped her from doing so according to the police report.
Nonoy Mongaya, VSMMC information officer told the Inquirer reporter that the baby was already due for discharge two days after he was born on January 2, Saturday.
The parents of Prince Niño Celadenia were busy processing the PhilHealth papers of the baby when the abduction occurred.
The Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) management, after watching the CCTV footage confirmed that the abductor was not one of their medical staffs.
The woman was described as fair-skinned and stands around 4 feet and 11 inches according to the police report.
In addition, the VSMMC hospital chief Dr. Gerardo Aquino Jr. announced a cash reward of still undetermined amount awaits for anyone with information that would lead to the recovery of the baby and the arrest of the impostor.
Meanwhile, as per policy of the hospital, all employees are required to wear their employee ID’s at all times. Upon closer investigation, turned out the baby snatcher was not wearing an ID.
The VSMMC information officer told the Inquirer reporter, “How the female imposter was able to enter the hospital undetected in a daytime security breach is the subject of ongoing investigation.”
