We fully support the war on drugs because it is the right thing to do. But, when the police do something illegal, it is our duty to expose their abuses.
Speaking of the war on drugs, a viral video circulating online has caught our attention because it allegedly involves a police modus called ‘tanim droga’ or planting illegal drugs to unsuspecting victims.
In the video, a young male motorcycle rider flagged down by the police for unknown reason denied owning the sachet of illegal drugs found inside the seat compartment of the motorcycle.
In the beginning of the video, two men in civilian clothes were trying to open the utility box found beneath the seat of the motorcycle using an improvised key from a thin wire.
If you understand the conversation, it appears that the original key of the utility box broke when the rider refused to hand in the key and the police forcibly took it away from the rider. The duplicate key was taken by bystanders(people).
When the utility box was finally unlocked, the young motorcycle rider was asked to open the utility box himself.
The reason being is to erase any doubt or suspicion of planting evidence against their the motorcycle rider.
Moving forward, the motorcycle rider followed the police instruction and approached the motorcycle with caution.
As soon as he opened it, the rider quickly let go of his hold when he saw the sachet of illegal drugs in plain view atop his other possession.
The rider can be heard telling the police not to pull a prank on him and claiming that is not his.
In total shock, the rider slams his fist against the leather seat of another parked motorcycle.
In the background, one man can be heard laughing, as if celebrating of the misfortunes of a fellow human being.
The video ended shortly, leaving the netizens hanging with many questions unanswered as to the fate of the young motorcycle rider.
Netizens had a heated discussion about the video. Many netizens agreed that the motorcycle rider was a victim of ‘tanim droga’ a police modus wherein unlucky victims are planted with illegal drugs to extort money from the victims.
One netizen posted a screengrab to show that one guy was caught on video holding something on his hand which the believed was the illegal sachet of drugs, found later inside the compartment. Check the pic below.
Ricardo-Resylyn Agoyaoy commented that the man believed to a policeman planted the drugs with the help of the other guy: “Hoy mga gagong pulis huli kayo sa cam.
Juliet Baco Angeles said that if the rider did really own the alleged illegal drug, it defies logic how he did not make an effort to hide it.
Maribeth Leonor Beltran said she support the war on drugs campaign but she did not like what she saw.
According to a commenter, the incident happened in Dumaguete. The rider was stopped because of a missing side mirror. When he was asked to produce the OR/CR, the rider failed to show one.
Onaic D Magnaye wrote that inserting the illegal drug can be done without actually lifting the seat.
But some netizens believed the rider has something to hide, thus making the police suspicious.
Geraldine Gumabong said the rider was stopped because of missing side mirror but he did not stop and instead tried to escape. A chase ensued. The police suspected he was hiding something so the police decided to open the utility box.
