“FIRST.1st.” This is basically the theme of Jay Sonza’s latest FB post on the Philippines performance in the Tokyo Olympics who just made history in PH sports.
Sonza remarked that ever since the country participated in the summer Olympics, we never had achieved this much success until the Tokyo edition.
“Magmula ng tayo ay sumali sa Olympics ngayon lang tayo nagtagumpay ng ganito ka tindi.”
Sonza thanked the taxpayers and everyone involved for the PH success.
“Thanks to the taxpayers, the government, the private sector and most of all to our National Athletes, their coaches, trainers, other team members and sports officials.”
Sonza went on to make a tentative summary of the achievements of the Philippine contingent to the Tokyo Olympics which he described as the country’s biggest achievement in sports.
Tokyo2020 Olympics in 2021 could be our biggest achievement in sports thus far.
* Gold Medal in weightlifting.
* Assured Silver Medal in Women’s Featherweight boxing and possibly another Gold Medal on August 3
* Assured Bronze Medal in Men’s Middleweight boxing, a possible Silver and probably another Gold Medal.
Sonza gave Filipinos reason to remain hopeful that our medal haul will grow as medal favorites in gymnastics, pole vault, golf, athletics and even boxing are still competing.
“Our other athletes are still competing in the days ahead. TODAY. Tonight, Carlos Yulo may just spring another medal in Vault Gymnastics. We may just spring another surprise in the century run (100 meter-dash) with Fil-Am Knott this morning.
Then is a big chance we can harvest a medal in the pole vault event with EJ Obiena. Plus,
Llamado tayo sa women’s golf with US Open Champion Yuka Saso and LPGA farthest hitter Bianca Pagdanganan (baka nga makadalawa tayo dito).
WE are also pinning our hope on Carlo Paalam for another medal tally in the flyweight men’s boxing event.”
Sonza expressed optimism Tokyo2020 Olympics will bring more good news for the Philippines.
“To sum it up – Tokyo2020 is pregnant with possibilities for the Philippines…”
