As per report from various local media outlets, including GMA News, Senator Franklin Drilon questioned the government for spending P50M for the SEA Games cauldron.
GMA News quoted Senator Drilon and shared this on their social media accounts as meme, “Is it proper, is it appropriate, is it valid, is just that we do away with 50 classrooms to build a P50-million cauldron that we use only once?”
However, Drilon’s swipe at the Duterte administration by insinuating that it is neglecting our classroom shortage in favor of spending lavishly on the SEA Games cauldron for the torch lighting appeared to have backfired.
Well, before the dilawans and their supporters celebrate thinking they have scored against the Duterte admin, they should read the Facebook post of international commodities trader and social media blogger MJ Quiambao Reyes who retaliated by reminding the public how PNoy spent P730-million for the Iloilo Convention Center to boost tourism and employment in Drilon’s hometown.
Reyes said that she agree with Drilon that building classrooms for our public schools is very important. But what she failed to understand why this did not cross Drilon’s mind when he spent P730-million for a convention center in Iloilo to boost the province economy?
P730-million public funds was 15x the cost of the cauldron he is questioning now which is equivalent to 750+ classrooms/ school buildings.
In addition, when PNoy spent P50-million for each senators during the Corona impeachment, Reyes asked if Drilon did lift a finger and tried to stop the PNoy admin and did he ever think of building classrooms and other projects beneficial for the public?
Reyes ended the post with a thought-provoking question that out of the more than P1-billion spent to each senator, how many classrooms were built from those money?

➡️ That’s 730M of public funds
➡️ 15x the cost of the 50M cauldron
➡️ equivalent to 750++ classrooms/school buildings
Was that proper? Was that appropriate? Was that valid?
