A post lamenting the unforgiving attitude of Filipinos towards the Marcoses while looking past the sins of other notable names in history is making the rounds online.
On a Facebook post, netizen Cedric Vanguard expressed his frustration towards the people who are suffering from the so-called double standard mentality when it comes to the Marcoses.
In the post, Mr. Vanguard, not sure if this is a real family name, cited the Marcos burial at the ‘Libingan ng mga Bayani’ as the perfect example in highlighting the Filipinos double standard mentality.
You may check the full text of the post below to fully appreciate his line of arguments.
I dont get it.
If we cannot allow Marcos to be buried in the Libingan ng mga Bayani, then why did we allow Emilio Aguinaldo to be a hero if in some historians he did not even qualify to be one?
If we cannot forgive Ferdinand Marcos, then we should not also forgive killers, drug abusers, corrupts, and all enemies of the state. Killing them should not be a problem at all.
If we feel for the families of the victims of Martial Law, then so should we for the families of the recent victims of rape and murder. If that is the case, death penalty is no problem at all.
If we really cannot move on with FM’s mistakes, then why did we allow Erap to serve as the mayor of Manila despite his graft case before when he was the president?
If we dont forgive the MAN who we think did not care about human rights, then we should be unforgiving too to the MEN who stripped their victims’ right to live. Hanging them in public is no problem at all.
If we show mercy to the killers as to give them second chances just as we believe they still have the goodness in them, then so must we see the goodness of the MAN, whom history cannot even deny, contributed much to the country.
The problem we have is we have the double standard mentality. We have hated the Marcoses so much that we were blinded of who the real enemies are today.
If we teach our people how to forgive,
Then tell them that forgiveness is not for few nor for some only, for God never teaches us to forgive only the ones we love, but also our enemies. If PJP forgave the man who shot him, why can’t we do the same?
What say you?

Well said, I applaud you. There so many people buried in that libingan that are considered “bayani” by who knows who. We cannot deny the fact that FM has a very long list of accomplishments that he has done for the benefit of the country. You are right bout the double standard mentality of the Filipinos. It is his right to be buried there, more than Nonoy and Cory Aquino. I wonder how they got there, they didn’t do anything to be buried there, besides being the president and not a good one at that. And I can name a few more that is not deserving to be buried there. Why are they there?…because of the double standard mentality….
If you want to share your sentiments regarding FM being buried at Libingan ng mga Bayani, well and good, but Madame could you just spare mentioning those who are already resting in peace thereat…My old man, the late Col. Felipe R. Hechanova Jr. is buried there,, and your statement had placed his integrity and that of all the good ,deserving soldiers buried at LMB… I am one of millions of Filipinos who wants President Ferdinand E. Marcos buried at the LMB..
CEDRIC VANGUARD, YOU’RE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT… AND ALMOST ALL OF THEM ARE CATHOLICS/CHRISTIANS, HEARING GOD’S WORDS IN THEIR RESPECTIVE CHURCHES EVERY SUNDAY.
So true. 100% agree.
Let’s just stop all our hypocrisy and bring back compassion to everything and everyone.

Saludo!
When God was nailed at the cross, the thief hanging at his side asked God to bring him to His paradise. And God promised the man to bring him there. If God was able to forgive the thief, why can’t we forgive other people?
This letter touched & moved me completely, though it is short but it is full of substance & very clearly expressed the facts & the real truth.I keep asking myself why there are people who seems unforgiving & hated the late president Marcos as it he is the worse of all the worst without taking into consideration this man did for our country from being a war veterans to becoming a president for more than 21 years undeniably all his accomplished projects are still standing & continue to benefit the vast number of Filipino people including those who can’t forgive him.If only we open our eyes & see these magnificent projects then perhaps we can realized that after all the late president Ferdinand Marcos is not all a bad president that we thought he is.
Preach on , bro . Thats the sad truth . Lord , have mercy !
Oh yea, Then for goodness sake, why do you consider Cory and Ninoy hero’s when they have openly killed farmers of Hacienda Luisita and sold Sabah to Malaysia?
Heroes rather. … Tanggalin yan sa pera ng pilipinas
I am speechless…So true!!
I thought FM plundered the wealth of the Philippines for himself and his family. And that there was no records of him being giving all those medals during the war.
Very much agree,,people who were victims of marshal law must move on ,forgiving is for their own sake ,,we are all sinners..We should not live for the past ,,just focus on how can we change our country for the good ,for the sake of our children!!!!
Well said, Cedric Vanguard…ANG DIYOS AY MARUNONG MAGPATAWAD TAYO PA KAYA NA NILALANG NIYA.
Your comparison is unfairly different. Marcos is a national figure who abused the authority that was entrusted to him by the Filipinos. Don’t you see it, all the underhand he did claming he fought in the war are laced with so much lies, such that the lobbying he did for recognition were all denied. While we can forgive the atrocities Marcos did from 1964 to 1986, allowing a hero’s burial insults the memory of all his victims and to the rest of those who are worthy of being laid to rest at the LNMB. Someone dishonorably removed from position cannot be called a “Hero” and therefore is not deserving to be laid where heroes are. Further, allowing him to be accorded the honor would disregard violations of human rights that have been favorably decided by the courts for the victims, which to this very day have been denied recompense by the Marcoses.
do you mean LKM that the AQUINOS OR THE LIBERAL did much better durint their terms. can you give me even five good things that this administration did during their term. isn’t it that the philippines is worst when they were the ones in power and think of this all of them are millionaires if not billionaires already. what do you think about this BIRDS OF THE SAME FEATHER FLOCKS TOGETHER. Are you one of them.
hi this is Cedric Vanguard please give credit to the owner Vic Cruz my friend regarding that post thanks
For everyone pro and against Pres. Duterte’s plan to let the late Marcos be buried in the “Libingan…of something”…Why ALWAYS bring up the bad side of Marcos and whatever transgressions (as expressed by others in the way they expressed it) he had during his Presidency? Can’t you put those “dreadful” (I’m using such horrible word to satisfy and comfort those who are still nurturing their angst) moments behind and start healing wounds? For over 30 years the Filipino people and their elected leaders have been at a crossroad where they could have worked together and in lockstep to move on and advance their vision for better changes for their own country’s future…But look what happened in those past many years? Worst happened, elected gov’t officials were and are more corrupt as ever and seems to have no end at all…!!! Where’s the result or changes they’ve advocated and what their cause for their people power and employing violence to achieve their goals during the Marcos years and well after he was deposed? After more than 30 years after Marcos was deposed (some Filipinos claimed he voluntarily deposed himself or relinquished his Presidency for the sake of the country’s and people’s safety and security and their future)..and following his death where are the changes and their desire for clean gov’t, and other reforms they advocated thru violence??? Wake up people…To date I see some of you, through your briefs, as Filipinos who can’t look forward but can look back and nurture the old wounded memories…Tsk, Tsk, Tsk…If only I can talk to those who to date are still in angst because of those unfortunate years that keep painting a bleak picture of the country’s future….But I wouldn’t…Instead, if I get the chance, I would just look at those/them in the eye and extend my arms and ask to walk with me and follow the path towards the direction where we can see the top of the mountain where the sun is rising, and as we reach the top of the mountain I would ask everybody to look as far as our eyes can see and tell everyone that beyond what we can see is an untold, undiscovered and unknown future that maybe they call can work together to reach and discover what’s beyond that horizon and explore it for their own country’s future and for the next generation of Filipinos to come…because I believe that Filipinos are people with unique character who can work together for their country’s future that Filipinos of all generations will be proud of and to nourish that pride for their own children to carry on to the next chapter of their country’s place in this world…Think people…Only the Filipinos can make good things happen for their country’s future….A prospective from an Old(Man) Product of the Old PCCr., a PRC Licensed Criminologist, Philippines.
you will ask yourself why haters of FM acted like that. Its being generalised that Filipinos are double standard. I think for me its not. Those people who are doing as such were paid by the people who wanted to monopolise the country which is the oligarchs. The real culprit on this are really the yellowtards who have no other intention but there personal interests. As you can observe everytime the leader of our country is not in there side, they created scenes and chaotic activities to oust the said leader who just wanted this country a better place to live in. Thats what they did to FM.
