A post lambasting the AFP for saying it failed to provide air support to the soldiers during the Basilan ambushed due to bad weather is doing the rounds online.
In a Facebook post shared by Even Demata, the journalist condemned the AFP for defending its failure to send AFP’s air assets to support the ground troops who were ambushed by 120 Abu Sayaff bandits in Basilan on April 10, 2016.
The gun fight lasted 10 hours that started in the morning and ended by nightfall that resulted in 18 soldiers dead and 5 Abus dead including a Moroccan bomb expert identified as Mohammad Khattab and Ubaida Hapilon, son of the Sayyaf leader.
The soldiers were on a mission to capture Abu Sayyaf leader Isnilon Hapilon. Unfortunately, the Abu Sayaffs got wind of the soldiers arrival in a village in Tipo-Tipo town, Basilan province.
The fighting was so intense that soldiers who survived the encounter recalled that the fighting included hand to hand combat.
Even Demata, admin of the Page that bears his name can’t help but took potshots at the AFP Modernization program of the Pnoy government has been boasting as one of the accomplishments of “Daan Matuwid.”
Walang silbing modernization sa AFP. Parang pinapain lang sa mga kalaban ang ating mga sundalo. (The AFP Modernization is useless. It seems like the soldiers were feed to the enemies.
Meanwhile, the netizens who happened to watch the video angrily slammed the Pnoy government as a result of the deaths of 18 soldiers who died during the 10-hour battle without hearing the sound of the helicopter rotor providing air cover to the beleaguered soldiers.
Let us read together the angry reactions of the netizens.

We often hear that in the war in Mindanao, we lacked foot soldiers, that is why the enemies could prepare for them before they could reach their targets. During Eraps’time, they were all exterminated.

(The government told us that the weather was bad that day hence air support were not given. Cursing…The weather was fine as shown in the video. Even by playing Red Alert, you know how to crushed your enemies, you indeed need all the support from Sea, Air and Land.)
